Possible statement credit in place of $15 Uber credit

There have been several data points in various groups and blogs over the past few days indicating that Amex has offered some Platinum card holders (personal / consumer version) a $15 statement credit in lieu of the $15 monthly Uber credit when chatting with Amex support via the website or calling to speak to a representative. If you have the card and are unable to use the credit, it may be worth chatting or calling.…

Nick predicts: Hyatt & Marriott’s elite status plan for 2020

Yesterday, we learned that Hilton will extend elite status to 2021 or even 2022 for some. Radisson announced the day before that they are extending elite status. IHG announced two weeks ago that they are reducing 2020 elite status requirements due to the current COVID-19 situation. What about Hyatt and Marriott? Will we see an extension of elite benefits? What are they waiting for in announcing it? We don’t yet know — and in my…

New targeted Webull bonuses: up to 35 free stocks

Webull, a stock trading app / brokerage, is offering new targeted deposit bonuses for some users. I didn’t receive this offer, but Stephen Pepper did. If targeted, you could get up to 35 free stocks (each worth between $9 and $1,000) — though the top tier of the bonus requires a $100K deposit, so it may not be worth going after the full 35 free shares. The Deal Webull is offering a targeted deposit bonus for…

Hilton Honors has announced their plans to extend member status and pause points expiration and the news is very good: all members whose status was scheduled to be downgraded on March 31st will automatically receive an extension through March 31, 2021. Those who have 2020 status (i.e. those who earned status based on their 2019 stays) automatically receive an extension through March 31, 2022. New bookings — even those at reduced-price advance-purchase rates — will be flexible up…

(EXPIRED) [Extended through 3/25] Frontier offering $50 bonus for cancelling

Update 3/25/20: This offer has been extended through today, March 25, 2020. You must cancel by 11:59pm Mountain Time. I didn’t notice if they also extended it by one day yesterday — perhaps they will continuously extend it by a day or two at a time to keep encouraging people to take action sooner rather than later. Frontier Airlines has an interesting offer for those willing to proactively cancel upcoming travel: If you cancel by 11:59pm…

Radisson extending status to 2022 and certificate expiration to 2021

Radisson Rewards has announced that they are extending elite status for those whose status would have expired in February 2021 until February 2022. Furthermore, they are extending the expiration dates for points and free night certificates set to expire in the next few months. This is about as customer-friendly a move as one could want — let’s hope that other chains follow suit. From the announcement from Radisson: As COVID-19 affects travel plans around the world, we…

Best Western suspends use of points toward gift cards or merchandise

Best Western has posted an announcement on its site indicating that they have suspended the redemption of points for gift cards or merchandise due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, they are not currently extending the expiration of Travel Cards, though I hope we will see a policy change on that in the coming weeks. To be clear, they are suspending the ability to trade Best Western points for gift cards or merchandise. These types of redemption…

The best credit cards for social distancing

For the past four or five years, the best credit cards to rack up rewards quickly have not exactly been conducive to current calls for social distancing. The best cards have been those that earn the best category bonuses: cards like the Chase Ink Cash (5x office supply stores), the Chase Freedom or Discover IT card (rotating 5x / 5% categories), the US Bank Altitude Reserve (3x mobile payments like Apple Pay or Google Pay)…

Some Hawaii properties closing and cancelling reservations

Reader usernamedchuck reached out to let us know that his upcoming stay next month at the Club Wyndham Bali Hai Villas in Kauai was proactively cancelled by the hotel and it looks like the Wyndham properties in Hawaii may be closed through the end of April (not surprising given the current situation). That led us to also find that the Wailea Marriott intends to be closed through May 25th. In usernamedchuck’s case, he was already…
