Avianca LifeMiles award chart changes

5

Avianca LifeMiles has announced some award chart changes, set to take effect starting on June 8, 2018. The changes are only for economy class redemptions on Avianca. I haven’t yet had a chance to do a full analysis of the changes, but on first glance, it looks like there are a number of reductions on routes from North America. There are some increases also, but on the whole it doesn’t look bad.

The full list of changes can be found here. Here is a snippet showing routes for travel to/from Colombia with reductions:

As you can see, Medellin to Washington, Boston, and Los Angeles make the list as well as Cali to Boston and a number of other cities to Los Angeles, almost all ringing in at 15,000 miles one-way in economy class starting in June. As a point of comparison, Medellin to Washington currently starts at 18,000 miles one way:

If you’re looking to travel this route, it’s hard tom complain about paying 3K less each way. Here is a list of routes with reductions for travel from North America (if the image is hard to read, click it to be taken to the page with the full list of changes):

Most of the routes with increases appear to for travel within and between South America and the Caribbean. As a reminder, LifeMiles is a both a Citi Transfer Partner and SPG Transfer Partner.
