Bears, cookies, and miles for Mothers Day

3

FTD is currently running a promotion in which you can get 1500 Delta SkyMiles per order.  To get the deal, go to FTD via this link: ftd.com/deltasky20

It’s possible to optimize this by finding the cheapest items with the lowest delivery fees.  The best I could find were bears and cookies:

Love & Hugs Bears by Build-A-Bear Workshop®               image

I Love You Message Bear by Build-A-Bear Workshop®
Item #BB55

Mrs. Fields® Mother’s Day Bites Box
Item #C547

Each of these is $19.99 with delivery as “low as” $10.99.  All-in, each item comes to $30.98.  Using a miles earning credit card to pay, you’ll earn 31 miles on your card plus 1500 miles from FTD.  The total cost per mile comes to almost exactly 2 cents per mile even if you don’t care about the bears or cookies.  While this isn’t the best deal I’ve ever reported, it’s not bad!

I have about a half million skypesos. If only I could get 1.5 cents of value out of them. I value them closer to 1 cent.

Don’t forget about the $15 AMEX statement credit for spending $50 at FTD:

If you’re going to shell out ~$31 you might consider purchasing something $19 nicer since it will only cost an additional $4. I didn’t use the DL promo (saw it too late and already have too many skypesos right now) but I noticed when I navigated away from the FTD site before purchasing it popped up a “purchase now get 15% off” window which I took advantage of and ebates reported I got cash back as well, so you might be able to get more value out of this if you navigate away before purchasing.

HikerT: Thanks! The Amex thing will really help. It looks like you can put two items in your cart and it is handled as two orders (for the purpose of the 1500 miles). So, I think you would get 3000 miles for $62 – $15. This comes close to 1.5 cents per mile!
