Best elite perks for spend

World of Hyatt Credit Card from Chase

Hyatt is my favorite hotel chain, and Hyatt’s top tier status (Globalist) is by far my favorite hotel elite status.  It offers perks such as suite upgrades confirmed at time of booking, free full breakfast, waived resort fees, and free parking on award stays.  With this card you automatically get 5 nights towards status, plus you can earn 2 elite nights for each $5K of spend.  Globalist status requires 60 elite nights to obtain and 55 nights to renew.

If you were thinking of booking extra flights just to get or keep status, consider using one or more of these cards to “mileage run from home” instead.

Radisson Rewards cards from US Bank (former Club Carlson Rewards cards)

Radisson Rewards credit cards offer a free night at any US property after each $10K annual spend up to $30,000 for a maximum of 3 free nights. Sadly, there aren’t very many desirable Radisson Rewards properties in the US, but there are a few (the Radisson Blu Chicago, and the Radisson Hotel & Suites Dowtown Austin are a couple of good ones I’ve stayed at). Each of these cards will give you a free night after each $10K annual spend up to $30K. You’ll also earn 5X points for that spend, plus 40,000 bonus points each year, so you should have more than enough points to turn the free night into a free long-weekend.

Thanks for the comprehensive write-up. I’ve been using 1040pay.com for years, usually with a 2% card, but sometimes I use a card to reach a milestone. Last week I put 50k of business and personal tax payments on my new JetBlue Business Card, giving me Mosaic for 2 yrs. Barclay gave me a 14K CL, and then, surprisingly enough, they let me move my 24k CL from some -in-the-sock-drawer AA personal card I had over to the business card. I had to wait until the 36k Q4 941 payment went through, was paid by my bank, and my CL returned to 38k before I could do the next 14k payment (not due ’til Jan 15th). Even with a JetBlue challenge you can’t Mosaic for less than $1250 worth of flights. In the end I’ll get 100k miles, Mosaic for almost 2 yrs. Sometimes you need to spend money to make money.

Acker, how do you figure 100,000 miles? Isn’t it just 50,000 miles?

I should have explained that I opened the card Dec ’18, and put the spend on the card early in January ’19. I specifically wanted to grab the opening promo of 50K miles for whatever the nominal spend was. So, the 50k promo kicked in as well as 50k generated from tax spend.
