Quick Thoughts

I noticed this promotion while in a Best Buy store this afternoon to work on the current Amex Offer. The $10 Best Buy gift card is a nice bonus if you were planning on buying one of those five brands for personal use, but it’s unlikely going to be worth doing from a gift card reselling perspective.

The terms state that the products must be purchased on the same receipt to receive the bonus gift card. I take that to mean that the $10 Best Buy card has to be scanned at the same time as the $100 in other gift cards and that the register will automatically deduct the $10 cost. I didn’t take advantage of this promotion though, so I’m not certain that’s how it works. There’s a chance you just pay for the $100 in gift cards and the register then spits out a coupon for the $10 card. If anyone knows how this works, let us know in the comments below.

If it was possible to purchase 3 x $100 gift cards and get 3 x $10 Best Buy gift cards, that’d make the deal more worthwhile. That because you’d also get the $30 / 3,000 Membership Rewards from the Amex Offer. I doubt that’ll work though as the 3 x $100 gift cards presumably need to be purchased in separate transactions.

Edit: I forgot that the Best Buy Amex Offer is available on one or more transactions. That makes this deal much better if you buy the 3 x $100 gift cards in separate transactions.

I’m in Peoria IL for the week which is where I saw this promotion. The offer might be regional though, so look for the above sign in-store before making a purchase. There were three or four different gift card racks in the store I visited but only one had this sign, so there’s a chance a store is participating in this promotion even if you can’t initially find the sign. Edit: Peter’s confirmed in the comments below that this is a nationwide deal as it’s in their weekly ad.

Don’t forget to scan your Best Buy Rewards card as you earn points even on gift card purchases.

Not at the two stores I checked in different states. They seem to only have direct GC’s.
