Singapore’s monthly Spontaneous Escapes can be interesting for those with the flexibility to travel next month and they can make for some good deals. These prices bring them in line with or under most other programs. Furthermore, Singapore often offers better availability to its own members than to partners and the points are easy to come by since Singapore is transfer partners with all of the major transferable currencies.
I actually just flew from Brisbane to Singapore yesterday in business class on the A350-900 for 43,400 miles thanks to last month’s Spontaneous Escapes (that route is also on the list this month). I was able to book that flight for four adults (and a lap infant). My wife, son, and I were traveling with my wife’s sister and brother-in-law. The four of us had the business class mini cabin (a second cabin of business class behind the main business class cabin) entirely to ourselves.
Service was superb and reminded me just how much better I like flying Singapore than almost any other airline. For those curious, I had to pay 10% of the cash cost to add my son as a lap infant (about $182.50 on this flight).
It’s worth pointing out that the Spontaneous Escape pricing is only valid on the specific flight numbers listed on the promotion page. In our case, there were 4 daily flights from Brisbane to Singapore, but only one of those was eligible for the promotion last month.
Note also that winter time weather in Singapore is still pretty warm. As I worked this afternoon near the Gardens by the Bay, Google told me that it was 92° outside but it felt like 103°.
Looking at the monthly averages, the coldest month had an average high temperature of 87° and low of 76°, so you can more or less count on sun and heat if that’s your thing (it is my thing, though the rest of my group found the heat tough to handle today).
Spontaneous Escapes can also be good for flights within Asia and to and from other regions as well. Singapore to and from Dusseldorf for 64,400 miles is also a decent deal even if not quite the best out there. Again, with the ease of putting together Singapore miles and the ability to potentially redeem for four or more seats on a single flight, this may be quite appealing for some.
