On the first of June, Capital One debuted its latest point transfer bonus and we just realized that we hadn’t covered it. Through June 30, 2019, you can get a 20% point transfer bonus when transferring Capital One® Venture® Rewards Credit Card miles or Capital One® Spark® Miles for Business miles to Air France / KLM Flying Blue. That means the current bonus brings the ratio up to 2 Capital One miles for 1.8 Flying Blue miles. That’s certainly not a bad deal if you’ve got a Flying Blue redemption in mind like one of the latest Flying Blue Promo Awards.
- From June 1, 2019 to June 30, 2019, get a 20% bonus when you transfer from Capital One Venture or Spark miles to Air France / KLM Flying Blue. With this bonus:
- 2 Capital One miles = 1.8 Flying Blue miles (1,000 Capital One miles = 900 Flying Blue miles)
- Valid June 1st at 12:01 AM EST to June 30th at 11:59 PM EST
- The normal ratio is 2:1.5. The bonus increases the ratio to 2:1.8.
I’m excited to see Capital One continue transfer bonuses — if for nothing else to keep the pressure on the other programs to continue offering good value for customers.
This transfer bonus means that purchases on a Capital One Venture card or Spark Miles card are earning nearly 2 miles per dollar spent (provided you transfer during this bonus). That’s very competitive if not quite the best you can do on unbonused spend.
Also handy if you’re a Capital One Venture or Spark Miles cardholder is that Capital One miles, unlike rewards earned from most issuers, post to your rewards account within 1-3 business days after you make a purchase. If you needed just a few more miles for a transfer / redemption, you could simply shift the Venture or Spark Miles card to the top of your wallet for a few days to make the purchases you need and get your miles ready for transfer even if your statement isn’t set to cut any time soon.
Another thing to keep in mind is that Capital One allows you to combine your miles — even with other Capital One customers. When I called them about doing this and tested it last year, I was told that you can transfer to anyone else with a Capital One miles-earning card and that there is no annual cap. That makes it easy to combine forces for a valuable reward.
While Flying Blue isn’t my favorite airline program, there are certainly opportunities to get good value, especially if the monthly Promo Awards line up with your travel needs. Hopefully we continue to see these transfer bonuses. Capital One has certainly indicated an intention to offer bonuses like this and I think they have made the Venture card relevant again after many years of being simply a vehicle for a new cardmember bonus. And like I said — a little competition is good for consumers, so I’m glad to see this bonus even though I won’t be taking advantage this time.
