Aeroplan changes: lower fees, fewer options

amex offers

Aeroplan has announced a few changes today. Some of them are positive and take effect immediately (lower fees and greater flexibility) while others are negative and take effect in September (changes to stopovers & open jaws). Positive changes Aeroplan made a couple of positive changes that thankfully take effect immediately: Free refunds within 24 hours of booking: Truthfully, I didn’t even realize that you couldn’t refund…

Amex clawing back self-referral points

avoid Amex Clawbacks

Last year, Amex totally overhauled how referrals work, enabling cardholders to refer someone to almost any Amex card and receive referral credit (which varies based on the card from which you generate your referral link). See this post for more information. One unexpected change that came about since you could refer to any card was the ability to self-refer. However, Amex is clawing back Membership Rewards points earned for self-referral. No word on co-brand referrals…

While Sun Country is niche airline with somewhat limited routes, it’s nice to see a move towards a more customer-friendly policy. As best I can tell from the information online, this new policy looks like it takes effect immediately. Here is the new…

United & BP Partnership Ending

Sure enough, BP sent out an email to Driver Rewards members this afternoon confirming that the partnership will be ending in a few months. The joint program didn’t last for long as it was only launched about 18 months ago. It was a mildly interesting program as…

A couple of weeks ago, IHG Rewards Club launched a status match and status challenge opportunity. See: IHG Offering Status Match & Status Challenge Up To Spire Elite. If you applied for a status match but haven’t heard anything from IHG, that doesn’t necessarily mean your request has been rejected. Check your IHG Rewards Club account as you might find that you’ve already received the status upgrade. I already had Platinum status thanks to having…
