35% off Starpoints is back

Starwood is once again offering 35% off on the purchase of SPG Starpoints for purchases through July 20th. I imagine this has to be the last time this will be offered (and I am surprised to see it return this close to the combining of points from the three programs). Purchasing points isn’t always a good move, but it is definitely possible to put these points to use at a greater value than the cash price if you…

Amex has launched a 25% transfer bonus when sending Membership Rewards points to HawaiianMiles. With this bonus, 1,000 Membership Rewards points will get you 1,250 HawaiianMiles. Good transfer bonus: IHG->United (buy miles from 1.67c)

United is offering a pretty decent transfer bonus on points transferred from IHG Rewards Club. Until June 30th, when you convert 10,000 IHG points, you’ll get 3,000 United Miles. There are often opportunities to grab IHG points for around 0.5c each (including through a promotion going on right now), which would translate to 1.67c per United mile. While that’s more than our Reasonable Redemption Value for United miles, it’s certainly possible to get more value than that out of…

Buy miles cheaply: AA miles from 1.72c each

American Airlines is offering a sale on purchased miles: through June 30th, you can buy miles for as low as 1.72 cents each — though be aware that it takes a large purchase to snag that low rate. That’s higher than our Reasonable Redemption Value for American Airlines miles, though it is certainly possible to redeem miles for greater value with strategic redemption. The Deal Buy AA miles and get 10% off and a bonus of up to 100,000…

Answered: Amex will tell you in advance if you’re not eligible for welcome bonus

Last week, it was widely reported that Amex had added more restrictive language to its applications regarding eligibility for the welcome bonus (See: Amex launches a sneak attack in the war on gaming), stating that an applicant may be denied the bonus based on the number of American Express cards they have opened and closed and their history with bonus offers. We wondered whether you would have any way to know your eligibility status before meeting…
