IHG points & cash promo: 20% off cash portion (buy points for 0.56c, maybe less)

IHG has launched a new (targeted) promotion to get 20% off the cash portion of a points & cash reservation. These promos have historically been a good opportunity to buy IHG points cheaply. I’m seeing a low rate of 0.56c per point, with packages varying a bit in price from one property to the next. In past sales, certain properties have had even better cash rates, so it wouldn’t surprise me if it were possible to buy…

Finding United MileagePlus 5K Awards

I recently posted the fact that almost all award flights within Japan cost only 5K United miles one-way.  That’s cool both because 5K is a cheap price to pay and because it’s a cheap way to initiate a United Excursionist Perk.  That means that you can fly round-trip within Japan for 10K miles and, if you can fit it in-between those two flights, you can make your way to another country/region and fly for free…

New: No change / cancel fees on Sun Country 60+ days in advance

Minnesota-based Sun Country Airlines has announced that they will no longer charge fees for changes or cancellations made 60+ days in advance of travel and they are reducing fees for close-in changes. While Sun Country is niche airline with somewhat limited routes, it’s nice to see a move towards a more customer-friendly policy. As best I can tell from the information online, this new policy looks like it takes effect immediately. Here is the new…

Now book Japan Airlines awards on AA.com

In this morning’s Marriott Bonvoy airline partner sweet spots guide, we noted that your best option to search for Japan Airlines award space is to use BritishAirways.com. However, another option has developed today: You can now search for and book Japan Airlines awards on AA.com. To book on AA.com you will of course need American Airlines miles, but a quick look at availability at AA.com should give you an indication of what to expect with other…

A number of airlines and airports offer free tours and free lodging for those transiting through the airport on their way to somewhere else.  This can be a great way to turn an otherwise painfully long layover into a mini vacation of its own. We’ve scoured the web for the best deals, but we may have missed some.  If you know of any great stopover deals that we missed, please comment below! Istanbul: Turkish Airline’s…

Will IHG Finally Introduce Worthwhile Status Benefits? Here’s What Might Be Offered.

IHG Elite Status

Unlike many in the points and miles world, I actually have a soft spot for IHG Rewards Club. OK, so they nixed my plan to pretty much live in 5,000 point per night PointBreaks hotels on our road trip. However, thanks to having both the old and new IHG credit cards, I get the 4th night free and 10% of my points rebated on our award stays. That means a 4 night stay at a…

Update: Save $100 on advertising, not a Fi phone

Update: Reader Mdk reports that while the advertising offer was triggered in the winter deal, it was NOT triggered on a subsequent purchase a few months ago. Marking this deal dead as such. There’s a new Amex Offer that recently came available on some business cards for advertising purchases: Spend $400 or more on advertising, get $100 back. That’s obviously a nice offer if you’ll be spending money on advertising. However, if you aren’t spending on advertising, it…
