Business class to Spain under $2K RT nonstop on oneworld / SkyTeam

Premium Flights and View from the Wing are reporting some very good business class fares between New York and Spain. While basic economy can be less than $300 round trip if you catch a sale fare, this is a good price if you’re looking for paid business class. It’s also a potentially decent use of points. For example, rather than transfer from Chase Ultimate Rewards to a partner to book business class to Europe (most charge…

Bonvoy Success: Marriott Free Night Certificate Extended Another Year

Aloft Buffalo Downtown corner room

You’d think that living in hotels would make it easy to use all the free night certificates my wife and I get from our credit cards. That’s sadly not the case. This might also seem unfair, but it’s often our dog’s fault. Our first issue is finding a pet-friendly hotel. Our second issue is the pet fee. Most pet-friendly hotels where we can use our free night certificates charge a $75-$100 pet fee per stay.…

Google Maps AR walking directions: a useful tool, only available for some so far

Google Maps has been slowing rolling out the ability to use AR (Augmented Reality) for walking directions. I recently received a notification on my phone that I had been selected to test it out and I think this may be limited to Pixel phones at the moment. Many readers might have a Pixel from the Google Fi promotion last year, or the more recent promotion, so it seemed like it might be worthwhile to show…

Double Qantas transfer bonus? (get a 44% bonus, maybe more, maybe not)

There is currently a 20% transfer bonus from American Express Membership Rewards to Qantas. Qantas then sent out an email overnight advertising a 20% transfer bonus. While one might have assumed that this was the same bonus, readers at Dan’s Deals have confirmed that the bonuses are stacking. That is to say that people are reporting receiving a 20% transfer bonus on the Amex end and then an additional 20% bonus from Qantas a day after the transfer posts.…

New Marriott offer: $40 back on $200

A day late and a dollar short, story of my life :-). There’s a new Amex Offer out today for Marriott Bonvoy properties that came out a day after I checked out from a week at a Marriott property (as fate would have it). Sync it up now so you don’t end up with the same envy in your heart for those of you who haven’t yet checked out of a property today — or be prepared…

Stay in a castle with Hyatt points (SLH is a nice win after all)

When the Hyatt / Small Luxury Hotels of the World partnership formed last year, I said I wasn’t excited. That was mostly because I think it set up Hyatt to introduce a new category since some SLH properties currently cost 40K Hyatt points per night (more than anything on the Hyatt award chart, with top properties like the Park Hyatt New York or Tokyo costing only 30K per night) — but also because I said…

The new 95K Sonesta credit card. My lazy review.

Bank of America is out with a new credit card: Sonesta World Mastercard.  Sonesta is a small hotel chain with only 74 participating properties, all of which are in the Americas.  You can find a list of properties here.  I was very surprised to find one in my own town, Ann Arbor, Michigan.  Who knew? Bank of America advertises the signup bonus on this card as “up to 95,000 points.”  But it’s really a 60K…

Marriott Bonvoy Complete Guide

This guide has been updated to include the all new Marriott Bonvoy Bold credit card.  Marriott Bonvoy is the all-in-one rewards program which replaced Marriott Rewards, Starwood Preferred Guest, and Ritz-Carlton Rewards.  Compared to other programs, in my opinion, Marriott Bonvoy offers better than average rewards for paid stays, a strong elite program (but not best overall), best-in-class options for point transfers to airline miles, a huge selection of hotels that run from very low…
