Chase may match 100K offer for some

0

Miles to Memories reports an interesting data point on the Chase Ink Business Preferred: at least one of their readers reported having applied under the 80K offer and being matched to the 100K offer via secure message. Chase has historically been good about matching a new offer within 90 days of your application, but this is particularly interesting given that the 80K offer is still available via referral. A couple playing in 2-player mode might be able to leverage this into an extra 20K points.

As we reported yesterday, the public offer for the Chase Ink Business Preferred is now 100K Ultimate Rewards points after spending $15K on purchases in the first 3 months — essentially $10K spend more than the former offer for an additional 20K points.

However, we also reported that the referral offer from current cardholders is still good for 80K after $5K spend in the first 3 months (there is no guarantee that the referral offer will remain this way for long, so those interested should take advantage while you can). We included information about both offers in our post yesterday. Here it is again:

Card Offer and Details

Recent better offer: 80K after $5K spend. Many preferred the 80K offer due to the much lower spend requirement

Stephen noted in the post yesterday that a couple playing in 2-player mode could therefore end up with 100K points and a lower spend requirement.

The Miles to Memories data point indicates that the reader had applied under that 80K-after-$5K in purchases offer but sent a secure message to Chase yesterday asking if they could be matched to the new offer. The response from Chase agreed to do so and advised him to send a message again after he had completed the additional $10K in spending in order to have his bonus adjusted. As Mark notes in his post, that could make the 80K offer a better move for folks who aren’t positive that they’ll be able to meet the spending requirement for the 100K offer as it lines you up to earn 80K after the lower requirement.

But if you’re playing in 2-player mode, it could be better. Let’s imagine a fictional couple named Morgan and Jordan. Morgan has the Chase Ink Business Preferred and earns 20K Ultimate Rewards points upon referring Jordan, who uses Morgan’s link to apply and is approved for the 80K offer. Then Jordan sends a secure message to Chase to get matched to the 100K offer. In the end, they’ll have 120K total bonus points thanks to the 20K referral bonus.

Of course, there is the chance that Chase will stop matching and/or not agree to match someone who applied through a referral offer — but if you’re playing in 2-player mode, you still wind up with a net 100K with less spend required if you include the referral bonus.

It’s worth noting that if you have the older Chase Ink Plus, which hasn’t been available for new applications for a couple of years now, you may be able to generate a referral offer for the Chase Ink Business Preferred. My Ink Plus generates a referral offer for the Ink Business Preferred.
