Chase has sent out some emails this afternoon offering 2,000 bonus points when spending $4,000+ between January 15 and March 31, 2019. We only have reports of these emails being sent to IHG, Marriott & Hyatt cardholders so far, but offers for other cardholders like British Airways might be coming.

Quick Thoughts

I received this offer on my old IHG credit card, so it’ll be interesting to see if a similar offer arrives for my IHG Premier credit card. Doctor of Credit has noted that a similar email went out to some Marriott cardholders and the comments there mention readers getting the offer on a Hyatt card.

I’d say there’s a good chance that similar spending offers will be other types of cardholders (e.g. British Airways, Aer Lingus, Iberia, etc.), so keep an eye on your emails in the coming days.

This represents a bonus 0.5 points per dollar, so it’s not worth moving spend over to an IHG or Marriott card for that. If I get the offer on my World of Hyatt card though, that’s a different proposition. Not only are Hyatt points worth more than IHG and Marriott, but you get 2 elite qualifying nights for every $5,000 of spend, plus a free category 1-4 night when spending $15,000 during your cardmember anniversary year.

Keep in mind that only spend between January 15 and March 31 will count. The “good” news is that quarterly estimated taxes are due by January 15. That coincides perfectly with the start date of this offer, so if it’s possible to earn 1.5 Hyatt points with that spend also counting towards 2 qualifying nights and the $15,000 threshold, that makes paying the credit card processing fee less painful.
