Chasing Diamond: Suite Upgrade correction

7

In yesterday’s post “Chasing Diamond: Suite Upgrade Awards” I made a mistake.  I wrote that Hyatt’s “My Elite Rate” was not considered an eligible rate for Upgrade Awards.  I was wrong.  I’ve updated the post accordingly.

I don’t know what I was thinking when I believed the phone agent who gave me this information.  I tell people all the time not to believe what phone agents tell you.  They’re not lying to you.  They’re simply often wrong.  I don’t mean Hyatt reps specifically.  I mean everyone.  Try it.  Call just about any company and ask about their policy on some obscure thing.  Then, call again and ask the same question.  I bet you’ll get two different answers.  Why didn’t I think of this before publishing my prior post?  I made a mistake.  Just like a phone agent.

The above paragraph may make me sound prejudiced against phone agents.  If so, I apologize!  I think that everyone is equally capable of disseminating wrong information, and often does.  Even me.  But, we don’t do it on purpose.

I am interested in understanding whether or not Diamond Suite Upgrades are replenished on March 1st for those on a Diamond Challenge. If so, I could theoretically begin the challenge today, apply 4 suite upgrades to future stays by Feb 28th, and be issued 4 new suite upgrades on March 1st which I could apply to future stays.

Seems to me like there are two ideal times to start the challenge, 1) post June 1 if you plan to complete the challenge as this will give you the longest duration as a diamond, 2) within 60 days prior to March 1st so as to have access to two sets of 4 suites upgrades (8 total).

Please let me know if I am mistaken as I plan to apply for the challenge in the next day or two under the impression that this is valid. Thanks!

Nuts. I was hoping you were going to tell me your mistake would allow me to upgrade to a suite for my points stay at Park Hyatt Beaver Creek at the end of the year….
