A Choice safari, hosting AirBnB, and MS at Sea

From the plains of Africa to the hip spots in Oak Lawn, welcome to this week’s Frequent Miler week in review around the web, where we recap some of the stories that caught our eye around the net. Whether you’re looking to tango in Buenos Aires or you just can’t give up your MS addiction for long enough to cruise the Caribbean, here are some of this week’s top tips around the web.

Our Self-Drive Safari in Kenya

Not from Kenya — this is one of my safari pics. Check out the linked article above for some terrific pics from Drew and Carrie!

Two trips to Kruger has my wife and I hooked on safaris and very interested in branching out to other regions in Africa. Drew at Travel is Free brings us a report (and terrific pictures) of he and Carrie’s self-drive tour in Kenya. I very much share Drew’s predilection for optionality (a word he coined that perfectly captures it). I wholeheartedly agree that self-drive is the way to go — and who knew you could sleep on safari with Choice points? Drew did, that’s who. Read on for more.

How To Fly To Argentina With Miles (Award Charts For Chase, Amex, Citi Points)

It is downright difficult to keep up with all of the various transfer partners and their associated award charts. This post from MileCards gives an excellent breakdown of your options when it comes to using your points to get to Argentina. Ever since learning some salsa in Ecuador (and taking it out on the floor in the salsa clubs of Cali, Colombia), my wife and I have wanted to spend a little time in Buenos Aires learning the tango. This post lays out the various ways to get there — a helpful resource if you’ve got a trip to Argentina on your mind.

AirBnB is something that has long been on my radar and my wife and I have very seriously considered it for some time. Harlan at Out and Out has provided some great reading material on the subject over the past few years, and here he brings us the first part of a five-part series (three of which are already published). He’s got some great tips in here about what kind of place to look for and how to crunch the numbers to see if it makes sense for you. I look forward to reading the full series.

Introduction to Today’s Manufactured Spend: at Sea Edition

Matt at Saverocity brings us a nice tip for some easy MS if your vacation plans include a cruise. While I wouldn’t go hard in this realm for a lot of reasons — not the least of which being the risk of holding the cash, I could nonetheless see this being a great excuse to open a new card or two before your next cruise. Meeting the minimum spend would be a cinch and you might earn a category bonus to boot.

Get $36 in food and drinks every time you fly: Priority Pass adds ten eateries to its network at Sydney and Brisbane Airports

This won’t be every time you fly assuming you’re not based in Australia — but this is welcome news in my book nonetheless. Priority Pass has been expanding the airports where you can get free food and drinks at a restaurant as a “visit”. While there are certainly times when I’m looking for a comfortable chair / a power outlet / good wi-fi that might make a lounge preferable, there are other times when I’d take a restaurant meal over the buffet that could have been laid out since the middle of last week. I’m glad to see that Priority Pass is continuing to innovate and build the network and would consider these spots the next time I’m in Australia.

That’s it for this week around the web. Check back soon for this week’s Last Chance Deals.
