Delta is running a flash sale from tons of US cities to Tokyo, with economy class, premium select, and Delta One award flights all on sale. The best prices are in July and August, when mid-week flights are just 60,000 SkyMiles round trip in economy class from the majority of US cities served by Delta. I haven’t searched all routes, but Thrifty Traveler Premium reported 83 US airports with flights pricing at 60K round trip, so check your local airport. A handful of other airports are showing prices in the low 60K’s. Premium select and Delta One availability varies, but is still pretty wide open.

The Deal

  • Delta has a SkyMiles flash sale with round trip awards to Tokyo from 60K round trip — and that price is available from most US airports served by Delta
  • Link to Delta.com to search (choose flexible dates and you can see 5 weeks of availability at a time)

Quick Thoughts

These are some solid deals, especially considering how widely available they are from smaller airports. For example, my “home” airport of Albany, NY prices out at 60K SkyMiles round trip to Tokyo in the middle of the summer.

Premium Select comes in at 90K, though you’ll want to be sure you choose an itinerary that connects to an A350 for the full experience.

Delta One is also available for 140K round trip. Again, this includes both major markets and smaller markets. For example, here is Little Rock to Tokyo, including itineraries connecting to A350 Delta One suites:

This sale is notable for its breadth and inclusion of many, many cities that might otherwise normally require a positioning flight to connect to a saver award gateway.

Again, Thrifty Traveler Premium reported 83 US Airports with low end pricing on this one, so there is a good chance you can snag a deal.

As always, it is worth comparing to your other options, but if you’re interested in visiting Tokyo and you have SkyMiles to burn, this might be a good opportunity.

I might jump on this one. Quick question. I saw that you called out targeting an A350 if you spend the 90K miles for Premium Select. I am a few hours from Detroit so I think that could work. What is the benefit versus another style of plane? Thanks.

I see nada at 140k (well 145k for coach), and what’s with the links to a pay site?

Gene

Atl, tpa, lit, bos. Best I see is 170k biz

Thanks, Nick! Booked 3 r/t ATL-TYO in biz for 140k each for July. Not sure, but maybe I got better results NOT logged in (I am DM), or maybe just user error on my part.

Ok. I found some Boston dates after posting this. I had a limited time frame to travel and didn’t look extensively. I thought the promotion was less limited than it is

What has the world come to when we call 140k roundtrip in business a ‘flash sale’?

And also when the post doesn’t even list the airports???

Nun

No luck with bos-nrt, originating in either city.

Agree the term “sale” is inappropriate as DL does not use published award charts. Rather this is “DL award tix are temporarily reduced to normal prices charged by competitors” – but that doesn’t sound as good does it?
