American Express released a new offer today giving a $5 statement credit with a $25 or more purchase at Dollar General or Dollar General Market. This promotion is good for in-store purchases only and expires on August 31, 2015. Dollar General sells a wide variety of merchandise and gift cards in their stores.
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to find a Twitter hashtag corresponding to this offer, so it appears it can only be loaded via the American Express website. I did find it available under the “Offers for You” tab on all of my American Express accounts, so it seems to be widely available.
Terms
Valid in-store only. Not valid on online purchases or phone orders. Offer valid at Dollar General and Dollar General Market stores. Valid at any participating location in the US. Enrollment limited. Must add offer to Card and use same Card to redeem. Limit 1 statement credit per American Express Card across all American Express offer channels. Statement credit will appear on your billing statement within 90 days after 8/31/15, provided that American Express receives information from the merchant about your qualifying purchase.

I bought a $25 Amazon gift card at my Dollar General. I saw loadable Vanilla Visa gift cards but didn’t attempt to buy since it’s not Bluebird/Serve compatible.
The dollar general market on L st at Omaha did not let me buy any gift card using CC. The cashier was not sure so she asked her manager. The manager told me no visa gift card can be purchased by using cc, neither any of the 3rd party gift card.
Do you know if that’s a company wide policy?

You can also get a second Discover card. I have a Discover More card I got in 2012. I called and they advised the double cash offer was not good for that card. I asked if I could apply for the new card and keep my old card. Answer – Yes! Got the Dit card. Only catch is they give you an option of keeping old card and splitting the CL, or giving up old card. I keep the old card, so now have 15% CB between the two on the rotating categories. Also, don’t forget the Shop Discover portal bonuses. They are UNLIMITED cash back. Usually they are the best shopping portal for CB.

Only got it listed on one of my cards on americanexpress.com but it was available for all of them on Facebook though. Was also able to add the new Royal Farms offer to all my cards where it only showed up on one of them on americanexpress.com also. I plan on using them to buy gas gift cards. Thanks to Amex for $60 in free gas!
Haven’t been to DG. What can one buy at DG with Amex cards? Visa or store gift cards?
