The Chase Ultimate Rewards portal is currently offering 5x for purchases at Staples.com. That is notable since those with the Ink Cash Card (or the no-longer-available Ink Plus) can stack that with earning 5x on their credit card for purchases at office supply stores and earn an effective 10x at Staples today.
The Deal
- Earn a bonus 5x at Staples when shopping through the Chase Ultimate Rewards shopping portal (on top of your normal credit card rewards)

While portal bonuses for Staples come around now and then, this one might be of particular interest for those with an Ultimate Rewards card that earns 5x at office supply stores since you can essentially earn 10x total on eligible purchases through the Chase portal right now — 5x from the portal itself and 5x from your credit card if you have the Chase Ink Cash (or old Ink Plus).
Keep in mind that most gift card purchases do not earn portal rewards, but it’s always a good idea to check the Frequent Miler Laboratory for recent results. If you’re buying a gift card of some sort, I always think it’s worth at least clicking through a portal even when you don’t expect it to pay out just in case you get lucky.
While the CashBackMonitor best rate history shows that there have been better past payouts (and you can currently stack some of the airline payouts with shopping portal bonuses for more miles), this one might appeal to those looking to boost their Ultimate Rewards points balance.

Any chance this will work on WF gift cards (e.g., 2000 points for $200 gift card)? WF gift cards work through other shopping portals, but have never used Chase UR portal before.

Hi Nick: I just did. There’s a report of success with a physical gift card–I’m hoping it works for an e-gift card (no fees). I’ll update the Laboratory when I find out if it credited.
FYI: I have NOT read if using a coupon messes with the 5x portal earnings?? — But here are (20) Staples $25 off $75 coupon codes up for grabs, expiring 11/11/18, if you can use to stack with today’s deal, go for it.
