Duplicate Hyatt Points From Chase Have Been Reversed Out

Chase giveth and Chase taketh away.

Back on June 19, many people noticed that their World of Hyatt accounts had been given a nice boost in points beyond those which they were expecting.

This appeared to be an issue on Chase’s end because all the people noticing duplicate points entries were Chase Hyatt cardholders and the bonus points related to credit card spend. With more people than normal using their Hyatt cards the last couple of months due to both the old and new Hyatt cards earning 3x at grocery stores in May and June, this issue appeared to be more widespread than would usually be expected.

Although this initially seemed like Christmas in July June, Santa Claus Chase quickly turned into the Grinch Chase as those duplicate points were reversed out a couple of days ago.

Chase’s error wasn’t restricted to recent transactions though. As per an email they sent to cardholders:

This error occurred on June 19, 2020 but the duplicate entries may appear in connection with activity on your World of Hyatt account in May 2020. For a small number of cardmembers, there may also have been duplicate entries posted on June 19, 2020 for activity in the following four months: April 2020, February 2020, October 2019, and November 2017.

In my case, Chase had awarded me an additional 4,123 bonus points across a couple of transactions, so those were reversed out on June 26 (although the posted date was different).

Chase Hyatt Reversed Points

As Dr Seuss almost wrote:

“Maybe Hyatt points” the Grinch thought, “don’t come from a grocery store. Maybe Hyatt points…perhaps…mean a little bit more. Perhaps in the 1.75-2cpp range.”
