The American Airlines AAdvantage eShopping portal is currently offering 6x bonus miles when making hotel reservations with IHG – double the usual rate. This can be stacked with the current portal bonus that’s offering 500 bonus miles when spending $75 or more and could potentially be taken advantage of four times.

Quick Thoughts

The American Airlines portal usually only offers 3x bonus miles for IHG stays, so this is twice as good as normal. Note that you need to use the specific IHG link as using a link for one of their individual brands like Holiday Inn or Candlewood Suites only earns 3x.

The good thing about this 6x offer is that it’ll stack with several others. First, the AA portal is offering 500 bonus miles when spending $75 or more in a single transaction. That bonus can be earned up to four times, so it could be worth booking separate one night stays rather than 2+ nights in one reservation provided that doesn’t increase the room rate due to any long stay discounts that might be applied.

If you booked four one-night stays that each cost $100 before tax, you’d earn 2,400 miles from the 6x offer and 2,000 bonus miles from the additional portal promotion for a total of 4,400 AAdvantage miles. The 500 bonus mile promotion expires on September 16, so you’ll need to book ASAP. The 6x rate will likely also end soon – possibly even as early as tonight (September 15).

Those bonus miles are on top of the points you’d get from IHG Rewards Club seeing as it’s a direct booking. That can potentially be stacked with bonus points from their new Accelerate promotion, along with savings from an IHG Chase Offer if you were targeted for that and you stay at one of the eligible brands.

If you do have that Chase Offer though, you might be better off booking one long stay rather than separate nights. That’s because the statement credit for the Chase Offer is only given on the first eligible transaction, so it might make sense to pay for a more expensive stay to get a larger statement credit and forgo some of the AA 500 bonus miles. That’ll all depend on the room rate, your length of stay and how you value American Airlines miles though, so do the math if you can take advantage of all these offers to work out what’s best for you.
