Update: When we posted this, it was unclear as to whether or not it was targeted. It is not targeted. I have since received the $25 statement credit from this promotion despite the fact that I did not receive a targeted pop-up. If you have a Capital One credit card and an Android phone, this is a free $25, no purchase required. See more details in the original post to follow.

Capital One is offering a $25 statement credit when you add a Capital One credit card to Google Pay. While some people have reported receiving a notification for this promo in the Capital One app, indicating that it may be targeted, the landing page for the promotion does not have language indicating that it’s targeted. I did not receive a notification in the app but went ahead and added a Capital One card to Google Pay anyway as I’m a sucker for a free $25 with low effort.

The Deal

  • Get a $25 statement credit when you add an eligible Capital One card to Google Pay (may be targeted, but the promotion page does not indicate that it is)
  • Direct link to this promotion

Key Terms

  • Valid September 1, at 12:00 a.m. Eastern Time (EST) and ends October 15, 2018 at 12:00 a.m. (EST)
  • From the promotion page: Capital One Google Pay Promo Offer (the “Offer”) is open to legal residents of the 50 United States and D.C., Puerto Rico & U.S. Virgin Islands who are at least eighteen (18) years old and qualify pursuant to these Terms and Conditions. Offer is void where prohibited or restricted by law.Additionally, to be eligible, individuals must:
    • (a) own an Android device that can run Google Pay (a “Qualified Device”);
    • (b) have a qualifying Capital One credit card that is compatible with Google Pay and eligible for this Offer (“Qualifying Card”). Qualifying Cards include U.S.-issued Capital One consumer credit cards, and exclude partner cards, debit cards, and small business cards.
    • (c) have not previously activated and added that Qualifying Card to Google Pay in the last year.

    Eligible individuals are each a “Participant,” collectively the “Participants.”

    If a Participant upgrades or changes their account to another credit card product, or if their account becomes delinquent, closed, restricted, over the credit line or otherwise not in good standing, they will not be eligible for this promotion. Accounts must be open and in good standing at the time of statement credit fulfillment.

  • Statement credit should credit within 1-2 billing cycles

Quick Thoughts

This one looks like easy money as long as you’re linking a card that has not been linked to Google Pay before. It’s possible that it is targeted, but the promotion page certainly looks public. Note that the terms go on to say that you need to link your Capital One card to receive the $25 statement credit — it does not seem to require a purchase. While I can’t be sure it is open to everyone, it was easy enough to add a card to Google Pay that I think it’s worth taking a swing at this one.
