Quick Thoughts

The ‘Offer Details’ section includes a sentence saying “Valid at partners.rentalcar.com/amexehi”. Although you can book there, the longer list of terms confirms that you can book directly on the websites of Enterprise, National or Alamo. That can be worthwhile seeing as you can earn up to 5% additional cashback by going through a portal.

If your transaction(s) came to a total of exactly $200, you’d effectively be saving 10% which isn’t too bad. Something to consider when booking a rental car though is the insurance coverage provided by your credit card.

Most American Express cards only provide secondary cover domestically unless you enroll in their Premium Car Rental Protection. The cost for that coverage would be $19.95, so the Amex Offer would effectively offset that cost. If you have the Chase Sapphire Reserve, it might therefore make more sense to pay with that card as it offers primary coverage as standard and earns 3x on car rentals. I’ve also found it’s pretty easy to make a claim.

This Enterprise, National or Alamo Amex Offer is only available for rentals in the US or US Territories, so that’s something else to bear in mind if you’re looking at renting a car overseas.
