Air Canada is offering some excellent economy class fares that include 2 checked bags from a variety of US cities to Beijing and Shanghai. Some top deals include San Diego to Beijing for just $386 round trip and Orlando to Beijing for $413 round trip. China is certainly a long way to travel and some would no doubt prefer to use miles to fly in a premium cabin. However, prices this low could certainly be a great deal for those comfortable enough flying in economy class.

Great Wall of China in Beijing

The Deal

  • Cheap flights to Beijing and Shanghai, China on Air Canada from $386 RT

Key Terms

  • 3-night minimum stay
  • A stay of more than 72 hours requires a visa
  • Lowest prices are available on November 2018 and again from January to early April 2019

Quick Thoughts

These are some very cheap prices for travel all the way to China, and they aren’t fares that exclude checked bags, so the price you see is the price you get. I’m not sure what fare class these will book into, but it’s also possible that you’ll earn miles on these flights. With the total distance coming in at over 15,000 miles from the East Coast, you may be able to pick up a nice return in miles if they book into a fare class that earns 100% mileage flown (though that’s probably not likely).

Speaking of prices, San Diego to Beijing comes in at $386 RT.

You’ll find that price via Google Flights, but when you click through and select flights, the price increases. You’ll want to book via agencies listed at Skyscanner or Momondo for the cheapest prices.

East Coasters also have great prices available, like Orlando to Beijing for $413 round trip or Baltimore-Washington to Beijing for $464.  Other city combos are possible, including flights to Shanghai — like Las Vegas to Shanghai for $419.

If you’ve been looking for a flight deal to China, now might be the time.

I booked rt AC to China in K class via OTA a few months ago and added my United MP# upon checking in. I did not receive any RDM or PQM after the flights. I claimed online later and got denied due to my flight was ticketed in a “special ota contract” K class that is ineligible for any mileage credit. So be aware booking AC through OTAs.

144 hour transit visas (6 days) are also available since late 2017 to several cities including Beijing and Shanghai. You’re limited to travel within the region of entry but geographically some are quite large.

The Visa timetable doesn’t begin until midnight so if you arrive in the morning you can almost get 7 full days visa free.
