If you’re looking to travel to Europe in September or October, using Flying Blue miles could be a great option. You can now get 50% off Economy award flights to Europe from Washington Dulles (IAD) and Houston (IAH). With the Citi ThankYou transfer bonus to Flying Blue, flights to Europe in late-summer / early-fall can be a steal.

Flying Blue Promo Rewards July

The Deal

  • Get 50% off Economy award flights to Europe from IAD or IAH when using Flying Blue miles.
  • Direct link.

Key Terms

  • Book by July 30, 2018
  • For travel from August 31, 2018 to October 30, 2018.

Quick Deals

If you live near – or can easily position from – Houston or Washington DC, this month’s promo rewards can give you a killer deal. That’s because there’s also a 30% transfer bonus with Citi ThankYou points right now (See: Citi ThankYou Transfer Bonus: 30% To Flying Blue).

For example, let’s say you wanted to fly from Dulles to Amsterdam. I found direct round trip flights in September for only 24,500 miles + $170.81. That means it’d effectively cost fewer than 19,000 Citi ThankYou points to fly round trip.

Flying Blue Promo Rewards IAD-AMS

Alternatively, you could fly from Houston to Prague via Amsterdam for just 26,000 miles + $196.59 round trip. That would require precisely 20,000 Citi ThankYou points when taking advantage of the transfer bonus.

Be sure to check cash prices before booking as there are sometimes fare sales for travel to Europe in the fall. With fees and surcharges of almost $200 on some of these flights, it might make sense to pay entirely in cash, especially if you can also take advantage of the Air France and/or KLM Amex Offers that are offering 20,000 Membership Rewards when spending $1,000. That said, with 50% off award flights and a 30% transfer bonus, the cash price would have to be pretty low to make it worthwhile.

If you don’t have any Citi ThankYou points, Flying Blue is also a transfer partner of American Express Membership Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest. Although none of those currently have a 30% transfer bonus like Citi ThankYou, these Promo Rewards could still be worthwhile.
