5% Cashback at Amazon to End on November 1

giving assistant 5 amazon ending

The Giving Assistant shopping portal has reached out to let us know that they will no longer be offering 5% cashback on Amazon purchases after November 1, 2015.

According to their email:

As they say, all good things must come to an end. We’ve been notified by Amazon that we will no longer be able to offer 5% cash back, effective November 1 at 12:01am Pacific Time.

We get it. It’s such a bummer.

The silver lining? You’ve still got time to shop. All qualifying purchases made at Amazon through October 31st will receive 5% cash back.

This was a great deal, since just about everything on Amazon including gift cards seems to qualify for cash back, unlike other portals which highly restrict the earning categories. Thankfully, they did offer some advance notice and there is still about 10 days left to save.

If you haven’t yet joined the Giving Assistant portal, you can get $5 for joining through a referral link. You can find the FM referral link and other cool things here.

Is there any word whether they will revert to the “regular” 2.5% cashback, or just go to zero?

I’ve been using Giving Assistant for the past month or two because, hey, it’s free money on purchases I would have otherwise made with no cashback. I’m not really sure if items not fulfilled by Amazon get cashback, but I haven’t followed it too closely. I think for most people, it’s more a “feel good” rebate — “hey I got something for my Amazon purchase” — that a material source of money.

My assumption is that they’ll end up like all of the other portals: they’ll offer a rebate (probably 5% or so) but only for select types of purchases.

Does the cash back seem to be working on e-gift cards?

Yep. I just got paid for an order I placed yesterday! Update: to be more precise, I received notification that the payment is pending.

Pending is a good sign, any new updates?
