Overview

The Chase IHG Premier card offers 10X points at IHG; 2X gas, grocery, and restaurant; and 1X everywhere else. But, since points tend to be worth much less than 1 cent each, I don't recommend using this card for spend. This card can be decent for its perks alone:

  • Annual free night e-certificate good at IHG properties that cost up to 40,000 points per night
  • Fourth night free on award stays
  • 20% discount on points purchases
  • Automatic Platinum elite status
  • 10K bonus points with $20K annual spend + 1 additional purchase (probably not worth it)

A free night at hotels that charge up to 40K points can be a good deal for $89, though that will depend on where you tend to travel. If you often book award stays in 4-night increments, the fourth night free on award stays could save you a lot of points. Keep in mind the points & money bookings do not qualify for the fourth night free.

Overall, this card is OK if you're interested in the free night certificate or the 4th night free awards, but otherwise not worth keeping and certainly not worth spending on (even with the 10K bonus for big spend).
