Mercedes-Benz Platinum card 75,000 point offer

Valid through: 6/22/2016

American Express offers many different versions of their Platinum cards.  They have their Business Platinum card, their consumer Platinum card, and a number of co-branded versions of the personal Platinum card.  Significantly, each of these is treated as a separate product.  So, if you’ve had a Platinum card before, you can still get the bonus on a new one as long as you haven’t had that particular Platinum card before.

Now, for the first time ever (that I can remember, anyway), the Mercedes-Benz Platinum Card has temporarily increased their signup offer to 75,000 points after $3K spend (the usual offer is for 50,000 points).

It’s important to note that this card has a hefty annual fee which is not waived the first year: $475.  However, in exchange for that fee, you get lots of great perks (not to mention 75,000 valuable points!):

  • Up to $200 per calendar year in statement credits for airline incidental fees (by signing up mid-year, you can get this twice in your first membership year)
  • $100 Global Entry fee reimbursement
  • Airport lounge benefits (Centurion Lounge, Delta SkyClub, Priority Pass Select, etc.)
  • Rental car elite status
  • SPG Gold status
  • Hilton Gold status
  • Free Boingo wifi

I understand if I have had another version before, I can apply for this version and get the bonus again, but what if I am still holding a personal platinum?

I have a question. I haven’t had any platinum card before. If I apply for this one now, will I be eligible for earning the bonus for the regular version platinum card in future? Thanks!

Does anyone know if Southwest Early Bird check in is coded as Incidental Fee? What other good uses are covered under Incidental Fee do people know of?

Yes that usually counts as does taxes even though they are not supposed to. You can also buy a SW gift card and it gives you credit even though it is not supposed to. Drinks, bags etc. also count for SW.

If you want Econ Comfort upgrades etc. and choose delta etc. those count too.

I am surprised no other blogs have mentioned this…no commission I guess.

That’s why I can’t stand tpg, if there isn’t incentive or isn’t spg related, you won’t hear a peep about it …. unless it was widely covered by other blogs and/or it’s a slow blog/ news cycle.

FM FTW.
