New: No change / cancel fees on Sun Country 60+ days in advance

Minnesota-based Sun Country Airlines has announced that they will no longer charge fees for changes or cancellations made 60+ days in advance of travel and they are reducing fees for close-in changes. While Sun Country is niche airline with somewhat limited routes, it’s nice to see a move towards a more customer-friendly policy.

As you can see, if you change or cancel 60+ days in advance, there is no fee. If you change to a cheaper flight, you receive an electronic credit that can be used for one year from the original purchase date. If the cost of airfare has increased, you’ll pay the difference. I expect cancellation will result in the same electronic credit that is valid for a year from the original date of booking. Changes are self-service online with your confirmation number.

That more closely aligns Sun Country with Southwest airlines, which has long had the most customer-friendly change and cancellation policies. While this change obviously only affects those in the markets where Sun Country operates, it’s good news indeed for those who can take advantage. I’ve had a few opportunities to fly Sun Country but haven’t flown them yet. This change would certainly make me more likely to book with them since I appreciate flexibility.
