The Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan Shopping portal has some nice payouts going for Memorial Day weekend, including 10x at Dell Consumer (stack with your $100 bi-annual credit on the Business Platinum card), 20x at eBags.com15x at Shoes.com and more. Both American Airlines AAdvantage eShopping and United MileagePlus Shopping have matching rates in many instances. Keep in mind that many of those sites sell things you might not not ordinarily expect, so it could be worth taking a look to see if something strikes your fancy even if not the main focus of the site. Also note that while in many cases American and United have similar payouts, I think the notable story here is Alaska’s matching rates since Mileage Plan miles can be harder to earn.

Quick Thoughts

First of all, I’m a big fan of Alaska Mileage Plan miles. Since the demise of the old Starwood cards, Alaska miles have become harder to come by and an increased payout from the portal is always something that catches my eye. I often find that the Alaska Mileage Plan Shopping payouts are a little less than American Airlines, United, etc — and that makes sense given what I would perceive to be a stronger value for Alaska miles.

Today, we’re seeing increased rates at some popular stores:

  • ebags.com20x at Alaska, American, and United
  • shoes.com15x at Alaska, American, and United
  • Dell Consumer10x Alaska, American, and United
  • Groupon10x Alaska, American, Delta, and United
  • Bloomingdale’s10x Alaska, American, and United

As noted at the top, I like payouts like these for some less obvious opportunities. Each of these sites sell things that don’t quite fit the motif you might expect. For instance, I’m a hat guy. I personally like Bailey of Hollywood hats and own several. Both ebags.com and shoes.com sell those hats, in some cases for prices competitive with Amazon (though not all models are competitively priced, so you do have to shop around – but don’t forget coupon codes like 25% off at shoes.com right now).

There are plenty of other opportunities here. You can buy Bose products at ebags.com — or stick with what ebags is known for and stack 20x Alaska miles with the current semi-annual Tumi sale for big savings on a Tumi bag. Dell presents an opportunity for those with the Business Platinum card to stack their semi-annual $100 credit with the ability to earn a thousand easy miles. Bloomingdale’s carries a wide range of products and in some cases offers rewards that can make expensive items more attractive.

Overall, these increased payouts look pretty good, especially from the Alaska Mileage Plan portal.
