Now on Business Travel Rewards: Use points for groceries, restaurants, and more

1

Bank of America has announced a few weeks ago that those with the Travel Rewards card can now redeem those points for groceries, dining, and takeout. Today, Greg received this offer on his Business Advantage Travel Rewards card. It’s good to see that this offer is also extending to business card customers.

As you can see in the screen shot above, this option is scheduled to be available through December 31, 2020. The email notes that this offer was exclusively for Greg, but I expect this option will likely be available for all cardholders.

Note the fine print below that lays out the qualifying merchant category codes. Note also that you can apply points to any qualifying purchase within the past 12 months, but it will only work for the most recent $2500 in purchases. Here are those full terms:

Travel Statement Credit Expanded Category Offer. Now through 12/31/2020, you can also redeem Points for a statement credit in U.S. dollars to offset qualifying grocery store and dining purchases. This will apply to all qualifying purchases that posted to your account in the last 12 months, but is limited to the most recent 2,500. Eligible purchases for this statement credit offer include those made in the following merchant category codes (MCC): Grocery Stores/Supermarkets (MCC 5411), Freezer/Meat Lockers (MCC 5422), Candy/Nut/Confection Stores (MCC 5441), Dairy Product Stores (MCC 5451) Bakeries (MCC 5462), Misc. Food Stores (MCC 5499), Eating Places and Restaurants (MCC 5812), Drinking Places (Alcoholic Beverages), Bars, Taverns, Cocktail lounges, Nightclubs and Discotheques (MCC 5813), and Fast Food Restaurants (MCC 5814). Excluded from this offer are wholesale clubs, superstores and smaller stores (like drug stores and convenience stores) that sell groceries and other products. We do not determine which MCC a merchant is assigned. Purchases made at a merchant that does not process transactions under these MCC or purchases processed through a third-party payment account, mobile/wireless card reader, digital wallet not supported by Bank of America or similar technology where the technology does not support transmission of these MCC will not qualify.
