This is just a quick post to point out that there are two overlapping promotions for Ritz cardholders.  One of the two ends soon:

  1. Earn 10X at restaurants and gas stations on up to $3,500 spendYou must register by 9/15/20.  Promotion ends 9/30/20.
  2. Use the Ritz card’s $300 airline incidental fee reimbursements towards grocery store or restaurant purchases.  Promotion ends 12/31/20.

Both of the above promotions work at restaurants.  When I recently went on vacation, I brought my Ritz card along to use for all dining purchases.  Once those purchases posted, I sent a secure message to Chase:

Hi I understand that restaurant charges now qualify for the $300 airline incidental credits.  I have spent more than $300 at restaurants recently. Please credit my account accordingly. Thanks!

The first time I sent the message, the reply was to call.  That was surprising since I’ve never had to call before to get airline incidental fees reimbursed.  So, I figured that I just got a bad agent.  I tried again with the same message.  The second time worked!  A few days later my account showed that Chase had credited me with $300.

And, after my Ritz statement closed, I found the appropriate 10X bonus points in my Marriott account:

The Ritz card normally earns 3X for dining, so the middle line “RCR Visa – Air/Car/Dine Purchases” shows that I earned 1,001 points (from $333.43 spend).  The 10X promo promises a total of 10X points, so 7X more points can be found in the next line: “MB Chase Gas & Dining.”  There I earned 7 x 333.43 = 2,334 bonus points.

Summary

If you have the Ritz card and you haven’t yet earned your $300 in annual airline incidental fee reimbursements, now is a great time to do so!  Make sure to register for the 10X promo by 9/15 and spend $300 at restaurants by the end of this month in order to maximize these deals.

does it work for restaurants internationally as well?

Is it worth upgrading to get this card for these perks if you aren’t eligible yet for the Brilliant SUB (24 month rule for Chase vs. Amex)? Or wait until you actually get the Brilliant? Obviously you would have to wait a year from upgrade to get the 50K free night certificate, but that’s true for applying for the Brilliant as well.

I’ve sm’ed many times in years before, but this time a newbie replied i need to call. glad to confirm your recent experience & I’ll sm again.

Here’s another data point–worked for me as well (although I did call instead of message). Received my $300 back and still received 10x for each restaurant Took one business day to receive the credit.

Yes! Just checked on my credit as well & there was no point deduction. And I was already very pleased so thanks for pointing this out. Even more incentive for cardholders to charge at least $300 of dining/gas before 9.30.

Pam

I was able to SM for the credit
