Stacking JCPenney Black Friday Gift Card Deal

1

Starting tomorrow (11/22/18), JCPenney will be offering a coupon good for $25 off $25 when you buy a JCPenney Gift Card worth $100 or more. I think you should be able to stack that to save an additional 10-20% depending on where in the country you’re located if you do some prep work today.

Quick Thoughts

This deal requires you to buy JCPenney Gift Cards in-store on Friday. However, if you’re near either Staples or Kroger, this deal can get even better.

That’s because both Staples and Kroger have deals this week on Happy Gift Cards. Some of those Happy gift cards (like Happy Bride) work at JCPenney (See: Get Happy: 10% off “Happy” cards next week at Staples or Kroger: $10 off grocery w/ $50+ Happy gift cards). Since those cards work more like a Visa Gift Card than a gift card, I bet it is likely possible to use them to buy JCPenney gift cards. If that hypothesis is true, you should be able to save 20% on those gift cards at Staples this week or save on your groceries when buying them at Kroger and then further save with the $25 off $25 coupon you’ll pick up at JCP.

Just keep in mind that JCPenney intentionally makes the coupon valid through 12/24. That makes it really easy to put off using it thinking that you’ll eventually use it….and then it leads to breakage when you forget about it. Make sure you have a use in mind.

However, if you get 10% off of a Happy Gift Card this week and use it at JCPenney tomorrow, you’ll pay $90 for a $100 gift card plus a $25 off $25 coupon. If you then use the coupon and your first card, you could end up getting $125 worth of merchandise for $90, which is a discount of 28%. That’s not bad for certain items. My wife has often bought shampoo at the salon with JCPenney cards we’ve either bought at a discount or via promotions like this.

Overall, this could be a decent deal if you need to buy things at JCPenney. Make sure you’re using the Best credit cards for Black Friday deals. We’ve added this to our running list of Black Friday Deals.
