Starwood Transfers: Best, Rest, and the Secret Weapon

Transfer PartnersYesterday I added a new resource page to this site: SPG Transfer Partners. This new page has several (hopefully) useful sections:

This section has suggestions for when to transfer points, who’s accounts you can transfer to, and more. I expect this section will grow over time in response to reader questions and suggestions.

The Secret Weapon: Marriott and Beyond

This section briefly discusses the value in transferring SPG points at a 1 to 3 ratio to Marriott.

As a transfer partner, Amtrak doesn’t belong with the airlines so it got its own place on the page.

Best Airline Transfer Partners

This section lists the transfer partners that I think are most worthwhile. The transfer ratio is listed along with suggested best uses.

Please let me know if you think other partners deserve to be on the list, or if I should move some to the “other” category.

The Other Airline Transfer Partners

This section rounds out the list of all SPG transfer partners. Just because a partner didn’t make my “Best” list doesn’t mean that there are no reasons to consider them.

Indirect Transfer Partners

This is, to me, the fun section. It’s often possible to transfer SPG points to airline miles to hotel points; or to transfer SPG points to Marriott to airline miles; or…

While it’s not particularly a good idea to do this, this section shows that it’s possible to convert SPG points to Hilton at a 1 to 2 ratio; SPG to Choice at a 1 to 3 ratio; and SPG to IHG at a 1 to 1.67 ratio where you’d get top-tier IHG Spire status along the way.
