Stop & Shop has a couple of gift card deals this week that can stack with each other to make both a profit and save money on gas. They’re offering $15 off your next order when buying $150 or more of Visa or Mastercard gift cards, as well as 2x Gas Rewards points on Mastercard gift cards (but not Visa gift cards). Stacking these deals could therefore save you almost $30 on each gift card you buy.

Mastercard Gift Card

The Deals

  • Stop & Shop is offering the following deals:
    • Buy $150 of Visa or Mastercard gift cards at Stop & Shop and get $15 off your next order.
    • Earn 2x Gas Rewards points on Mastercard gift cards.
    • Direct link to weekly ad (see page 18)

Key Terms

  • Offers valid August 23-29, 2019.
  • $15 coupon expires September 5, 2019.
  • Limit 1 per transaction.

Quick Thoughts

If you have a Stop & Shop near you, these deals are definitely worth considering, especially if you spend a lot on gas and can liquidate Mastercard gift cards fairly easily.

The first deal is profitable in itself seeing as the $15 off your next order will more than offset the $5.95 fee on a variable load gift card. If you buy a $500 Mastercard gift card rather than a Visa gift card for that deal, you’ll also earn 2x Gas Rewards points.

That’ll therefore earn you 1,000 Gas Rewards points which you can redeem for $1 off per gallon on up to 20 gallons. Your overall savings could therefore be $15 from the first deal and $20 from the second, although the $5.95 activation fee will reduce your savings to $29.05 – still a great return before taking into account liquidation fees.

An added bonus is that you can take advantage of these deals more than once – you just have to pay for the gift cards in separate transactions. Your total savings are only limited by how much you need to spend on groceries before the $15 coupon expires on September 5 and how much gas you’ll use before the Gas Rewards points expire if you buy Mastercard gift cards.

A couple of important things to note. First, this deal doesn’t go live until tomorrow (August 23), so don’t rush to Stop & Shop today to take advantage of the deals. Second, Stop & Shop deals are usually also available at Giant and Martin’s grocery stores. This week though, only the 2x Gas Rewards points offer on Mastercard gift cards seems to be available at those stores – their weekly ads don’t list the $15 deal for Visa and Mastercard gift cards.

Some have asked how quickly points earned at SS can be used at pump. Here in NJ, I used point earned 15 minutes later at local Shell….

Multiple $15 coupons on multiple receipts have the same bar code number. I wonder how that’s going to work.
