Premium routes with wide open awards

UPDATE 3/20/20: I’ve added Qatar flights from North America to the list. Business class awards are wide open in January and February 2021!  I’ve also added United flights to Israel which are wide open this summer through September.  San Francisco to Tel Aviv via United is wide open in January and Feb 2021. One of the many weird things about life under COVID-19, for me, is that I don’t have any travel plans.  I can’t…

Last year, Hyatt and American Airlines announced that they’d be launching a partnership that would allow reciprocal earning, status challenges and more. That partnership went live a couple of months later in May, while late last year some World of Hyatt members with Globalist status gained Executive Platinum status with American Airlines without any kind of flying requirements. Hyatt and American Airlines have now launched a new opportunity to fast track to elite status if…

Buy points for less: When does it make sense to jump on a deal?

There are times when buying points or miles can make a lot of sense.  If you know what you’re doing, it’s often possible to save a lot of money or get a much better experience.  For example, you may be able to spend $50 on points to book a hotel that would have cost you over $100 if you booked the hotel for cash.  Or, maybe you were planning to pay $2,000 for an international…

Yeah, AA’s award search map tool is pretty cool…and frustrating

Yesterday, The Points Guy published a post titled, “Your favorite AA award tool is back — and better than ever“. The thing is, I didn’t have a favorite AA tool. And it’s back? That sounded like it required immediate investigation. After spending a few hours playing around with it, I can confirm that it is my new favorite American Airlines award search tool…..and I kind of hate it at the same time (mostly because AA doesn’t…

American Airlines is offering some business class web specials with transcon flights available from just 15K miles each way according to The Points Guy. The best prices I’ve found are actually starting from 16K, but I’m posting rather than continuing to search for those 15K flights to give readers the best chance to snag these deals while you can. The Deal American Airlines is offering business/first class web specials on some transcontinental US flights, with prices from around…

AA eliminates close-in award ticketing fees

American Airlines Planes

American Airlines has today eliminated the $75 close-in booking fee for booking an award ticket within 21 days of travel. That appears to be great news, though we recently saw United do the same only to add a mileage surcharge on close-in ticketing. At the moment, there does not appear to be a catch with this change from American Airlines, but I think the current tone among most members is on the pleased side of skeptical.…

Easy AA miles w/ new bank account through Bask Bank

View from the Wing reports on a new, easy, and potentially fairly lucrative offer to earn miles with a savings account from Bask Bank. While many long-time readers will remember BankDirect, this is actually a different account that I believe is backed by the same entity (Texas Capital Bank, N.A.). This Bask Bank account works similarly, but is better in many ways. I’m only half sold on the long-term value proposition, but I was sold…
