Much ado about Citi signup bonuses

Citi signup bonuses

A number of things are happening with Citi signup bonuses all at around the same time: offers disappearing, new signup rules, and new card designs. What does it all mean?  Let’s review… Citi moves from 18 months to 24 month churn rule As reported by Doctor of Credit, Citi has changed most of their credit card applications to say that the signup bonus is not available if you’ve opened or closed the same card in…

A new comparison of Citi Prestige, Premier, and Preferred cards

Citi Prestige, Premier, and Preferred

Note: This post is a re-write of a previously published post: Citi Prestige vs Premier vs Preferred. Since that post was written, there have been big changes in the ThankYou program… Lately I’ve had a bit of a crush on my Citi Prestige card. I signed up for the card in September 2014 in order to take advantage of both expiring and new benefits to the card (see “Citi Prestige experiment failed, yet I’m way…

Citi ThankYou Premier keeps getting better

I don’t know how I missed this, but a reader named Mike let me know that the Citi ThankYou Premier card now offers 1.25 cents per point value towards hotels, cruises, and car rentals!  Previously, the card’s enhanced redemption value was limited to airfare.  Now hotels, cruises, and car rentals count too.  The details are written directly on their offer page: I checked my ThankYou account to see if I would get improved value for…

Retaining my Citi ThankYou Premier

I’ll be on vacation until January 6th.  Until then, I’ll publish a series of “mini posts” with an occasional regular post if something interesting comes up.  I may or may not answer blog comments or emails during this time.  Thanks for understanding!  Recently, the annual fee for my Citi ThankYou Premier card came due.  $125.  Ouch.  The Premier card is a good one to have if you have a lot of ThankYou points, which I…

Citibank Stork delivers again

In my May 31 post titled “Citibank Stork delivers news,” I described a letter from Citibank with news about changes to the Citi ThankYou Preferred card.  Its  terrifying to get a letter from a bank saying that “exciting account changes are coming soon”.  Usually language like that means that your card benefits have just been greatly devalued.  In the case of the ThankYou Preferred card, though, the news was OK.  I even found it humorous…

5X everywhere without gift cards, part 2: ThankYou Points

At FTU in DC last weekend, I presented “You can still earn 5X everywhere.” Many of the tips I presented involved reload cards, gift cards, and Bluebird cards, but I also showed how you can earn 5X almost everywhere without gift cards. In this three part series, I’ll show you how.  Three Part Series 5X everywhere without gift cards, part 1: Ultimate Rewards 5X everywhere without gift cards, part 2: ThankYou Points (this post) 5X…
