Double Cash ThankYou Points Transferable to All Partners (when paired with Prestige or Premier)

Yesterday we learned that the Double Cash card’s cash back can transfer 1 to 1 to Citi ThankYou Points.  That means that this card can equally earn either 2% cash back or 2X ThankYou rewards for all spend.  Since the transfer wasn’t working properly yesterday, there was one remaining question: Will we be able to transfer these points to airline programs like Avianca, Virgin Atlantic, Turkish, etc. if we have a full-powered ThankYou card like…

Citi is poised to rock our wallets again (Points transferable to airlines!)

UPDATE 9/23/19: I’ve confirmed that points from Double Cash are transferable to airlines when paired with Premier or Prestige! UPDATE 9/22/19: 1 to 1 transfers are real! At the time of this writing, the Citi website shows the ability to convert to points at a rate of 100 pennies ($1) to 100 ThankYou points.  This seems to have gone live a day earlier than intended and so, clicking on “Convert to Points” returns an error,…

Citi (apparently) loses transfer partner Garuda Indonesia

In reading blog posts from around the Internet for our week in review around the web post (which publishes later tonight), I came across a post from Milelion (a Singapore-based blog) saying that Citibank had lost Garuda Indonesia as a transfer partner. It isn’t uncommon for banks with a presence in multiple countries to have different transfer partners, so I wasn’t immediately sure whether this would affect US-issued cards. However, after logging in to ThankYou.com,…

(EXPIRED) 50% off Thai award tickets for select markets (all classes)

Thai Airways is offering 50% off on award tickets between Bangkok and select markets. While Thai Airways does not fly to the US, those looking to piece together their own round-the-world trip may be interested in some of these deals since Thai is a 1:1 Citi transfer partner. A round trip business class award from Copenhagen or Stockholm to Bangkok would cost just 65K with this sale. That’s about 21 hours in Thai business class for a…

$386 to Hawaii round trip from anywhere in the US

A couple of days ago a reader thanked Nick for discovering and documenting how to book flights from the US mainland to Hawaii for only 7,500 points one-way.  She wrote that she was able to book her family of six for only 45,000 points! That’s ridiculously awesome.  And it got me thinking about the power of buying miles in select circumstances like these. But first, the basics… The trick to booking cheap awards to Hawaii…

Can you double the Citi Rewards+ 10K rebate by getting two?

In the post “Citi Rewards+ is a great companion to Premier or Prestige,” I explained why I think that the Rewards+ is a great companion card.  It’s not a great card on its own, but if you have another card that earns ThankYou points, the Rewards+ offers an easy way to recoup up to 10,000 ThankYou points per year.  The killer feature of this card is that it gives you a 10% rebate on any…

How bad are Citi ThankYou hotel prices?

There was a time when I was excited about the idea of booking hotels through the Citi ThankYou portal.  That was when I realized that it was possible to stack Premier & Prestige benefits. If you book hotels with points through the ThankYou portal and you have the Citi Premier card pooled with your Prestige card, then the Premier card’s 20% point discount on travel stacks with the Prestige card’s 4th night free.  These combine to…

Should you combine ThankYou accounts?

pooling ThankYou accounts

Citibank ThankYou Rewards points can be earned from several credit cards, and from some bank accounts. By default, each credit card or bank account has its own ThankYou Rewards account.  Citi does provide a way to combine accounts, but should you?  In the past, I said no (see this post for details), but now things have changed and the question is once again relevant. Advantages of combining ThankYou accounts There are a few advantages to…

New Citi application rule might be a net win

Last Friday, Doctor of Credit reported what looks like a pretty positive change in application terms on many Citi cards. Specifically, Citi ThankYou cards have received a slight wording change in the terms surrounding the Citi 24-month clock that may not make it possible to open more than one ThankYou card at a time. Note that we will need more datapoints to know how the new wording is being applied, so YMMV for the time being. The…
