Freedom vs. Freedom Unlimited

Freedom Unlimited

Last year, I detailed my plan for increasing my Chase Ultimate Rewards point balance.  The reason for focusing on Ultimate Rewards?  I’m a huge fan of transferable points programs, especially Ultimate Rewards.  Chase has several very useful transfer partners, but the one I transfer to the most, by far, is Hyatt.  By keeping a large Ultimate Rewards point balance, awesome hotel stays are always easy to secure. Examples of great Hyatt stays (in which I…

Sapphire Preferred 50K to 60K, and Freedom 15K offers coming soon

Sapphire Preferred 50K

Via an inside source, I’ve learned that Chase plans to offer increased signup bonuses for the Sapphire Preferred and Freedom cards.  The expected go-live date is November 16, but sometimes deals like these appear a bit sooner in some channels, such as through Chase’s refer-a-friend program. Both cards earn Chase Ultimate Rewards points.  With a premium card like the Sapphire Preferred card, points are transferable to a number of airline and hotel programs.  For more…

How to see which purchases qualify for Chase Ink and Freedom bonus categories

I feel like a dummy.  I’ve struggled with this for years.  Chase Ink cards are great because the earn valuable Ultimate Rewards points and they offer a number of 2X and 5X bonus categories.  However, it has always been tough to figure out whether purchases you thought would earn a bonus really did.  The Chase Ink billing statement shows overall how many base points were earned and how many bonus points were earned, but it…
