Hyatt Has Improved Its Best Rate Guarantee Scheme

Hyatt Best Rate Guarantee

Hyatt has announced immediate changes to its Best Rate Guarantee scheme and, unlike some hotel loyalty scheme “enhancements”, this one appears to be a change for the better. Before today, Hyatt’s Best Rate Guarantee offered a match to the room rate you found elsewhere, along with a $50 credit to be used towards a future stay. That $50 credit had an expiry date of one year, so the policy was neither particularly rewarding nor overly…

Update: Hyatt Globalist fast track challenge now with landing page

Update: There is now a public landing page. See link under “The Deal” below. YMMV — you still need to work for a “qualifying company”, but there isn’t a list. It’s probably worth trying if you have a corporate email address. Apparently, Frequent Miler doesn’t count. Hyatt Regency Baltimore Inner Harbor mini-review

We just had a very nice two night stay at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore Inner Harbor.  This isn’t at all a luxury hotel, but for a conference hotel they do a number of things right. We checked in with mid-tier Hyatt Explorist status (thanks to this trick).  I had tried to apply a club access award to the stay, but had been told by Hyatt Concierge on Twitter that the upgrades couldn’t be applied to…

Hyatt Place adds early check-in / late check-out for a fee

Hyatt has announced that World of Hyatt members can now make an advance reservation for early check-in or late check-out at Hyatt Place properties. This will come at a fee for those without hotel status, but those with status will have some fee-free options to reserve this. While part of this disappoints me (see below), this is probably a net win for members. How it works I believe this is already live. If you make a reservation…

Some Hyatt properties offering points for skipping housekeeping

View from the Wing shares a report about Hyatt potentially piloting a “Make a Green Choice”-like program, offering 250 points per night that you decline housekeeping (with some caveats). His report was only on one hotel, so I do not expect this is widespread. But it’s worth keeping your eye out for a sign if you’re the type to decline housekeeping on your stays. According to the sign pictured at VFTW, it won’t quite come out to…

Is it a waste to use a Cat 1-4 certificate on a Cat 3 property?

Hyatt Regency Tulsa, Oklahoma

One reason to dislike free night certificates (or at least to prefer points) is the inherent pressure they present. If you’ve ever had a free night certificate nearing its expiration, you know what I mean: let’s say you paid $85 for this credit card, you don’t want to use the certificate at a hotel that only costs $110 per night. If it’s a Category 5 certificate, who wants to waste it on a hotel they could have…
