Precious metals dealer APMEX is offering a buy-and-sell coin flip deal next week where you could earn an easy $100 profit and pick up $700 in easy credit card spend if you’re quick and have a little luck. Caution: No Ebates in-store cash back for GC purchases

Rakuten (formerly called Ebates) in-store offers provide you with chance to earn rewards on in-store purchases with a linked credit card. We recently received some reports indicating that in-store gift card purchases are not earning cash back / rewards. One reader inquired with Rakuten and the response indicated that Rakuten was made aware of gift card purchases and that these violate the terms of the Rakuten in-store offers. Those who value the continued ability to…

Alliant Visa earns no rewards at Plastiq

We’ve received reader reports (and so has Doctor of Credit) that the Alliant Cashback Visa is no longer earning any rewards on Plastiq payments. Whether you’re in your first year of having the card and earning 3% on all purchases or earning 2.5% in subsequent years, you’ll actually earn 0% on Plastiq payments. Personally, I was surprised to hear that people were still using the Alliant card on Plastiq. I stopped using mine when most personal Visa…

Is Moneygram dropping the banhammer?

Last year, Walmart instituted new requirements and restrictions on money order purchases (See: Walmart’s new Money Order limits: new speed limit enforced [likely nationwide]). In the last few days, some…

Dead: Ink 3x for online gift card purchases

Reports have been trickling in today that the Chase Ink Business Preferred card is no longer earning 3x on GiftCardMall, Venmo, or Simon gift card purchases as of a couple of days ago. That’s an unfortunate development for those who had picked up on these possibilities, though not altogether surprising as banks continue to close loopholes like these. As reported by Doctor of Credit, these purchases will still earn 1x with the Ink Business Preferred, but 3x is…

Bitcoin gift cards now available for sale (get $100 for $99)

There is a new “Bitcoin Gift Card” available for sale digitally in the US. It is essentially a gift card you can redeem with a website for Bitcoin, which could be interesting for those who have been unwilling to provide bank account info to exchanges or not interested in a private sale of coin. It may also be interesting for those who like to spend and get most of it back, but the jury is…

Best options for buying Visa and MasterCard gift cards

Updated 04/02/2019 This guide has been updated to reflect recent changes at Simon Malls and to add and edit the details on other sources listed below. A common practice for increasing credit card rewards is to use a credit card to buy PIN-enabled Visa or Mastercard gift cards, and then liquidate those cards by using them to reload prepaid cards, buy money orders, or pay bills. The first step is to find PIN-enabled Visa or…
