Necker Island available again to book with miles

Necker Island Sunset Kayak

If you have a week free in January or August 2019 and you have 1.2 million Virgin Atlantic miles burning a hole in your pocket, you can once again book an all-inclusive week for two at Sir Richard Branson’s Necker Island. The island was unavailable for quite a while after hurricane Irma hit in 2017, but it is once again bookable with miles. The current rules require that you have Virgin Atlantic Silver or Gold…

Necker Island award same price, but harder to get

After my trip to Necker Island, I learned that Virgin Atlantic was considering increasing the 1.2 million mile award price.  I published the news here: Necker Island award price probably going up. Last call for 1.2 million miles.  Well, I finally got official notice about the change and it’s not what I expected… The good news, for my 3 or 4 readers who were hoping to do this, is that the award price is not…

The Hunt for Virgin Duckies

Virgin Limited Edition Duck Necker Island

Last year I spent 1.2 million Virgin Atlantic miles for an all-inclusive week for two on Richard Branson’s Necker Island.  The trip far exceeded my expectations (see: Is Necker Island really worth 1.2 million miles?).  At the end of the trip we walked away with new friends from around the world, incredible memories, and a bit of swag: straw hats, flip-flops, a fish shaped Swiss corkscrew army knife, and a Necker Island rubber ducky. Necker…

Necker Island Breakfast

Yesterday, Condé Nast Traveler published “How One Guy Vacationed With Richard Branson…By Using Points.”  That guy was me.  My wife and I enjoyed an all-expense-paid week on Richard Branson’s Necker Island, and we paid for it with miles.  A lot of miles.  1.2 million miles. Was it worth it? Arrival When we arrived at Beef Island airport, in the British Virgin Islands, a taxi van drove us to a nearby dock. There, Necker Island staff…

Here’s what Richard Branson thinks of our hobby

Richard Branson Gives Greg The Frequent Miler the Finger

On my recent trip to Richard Branson’s Necker Island (paid for with 1.2 million Virgin Atlantic miles), I was delighted to find that Richard frequently spent time with guests.  He greeted us when we arrived by boat, stopped in the middle of a tennis game to chat briefly with my wife and I, joined the entire group for several meals, and more. Richard left the island for several days, but as soon as he returned…

UPDATE: Virgin Atlantic didn’t increase the award price after all. Instead they added a requirement. You must now have Silver or Gold status with the airline to make the award booking. More details can be found here: Necker Island award same price, but harder to get. My wife and I had such a fantastic trip to Necker Island for Celebration Week that we started planning our next trip as soon as we got home!  I…

Necker Island Food

On my amazing Necker Island vacation, I had the opportunity to have lunch with Richard Branson. A reader asked if that was the highlight of my trip. The answer: no, not really.  Don’t get me wrong, it was great to meet Sir Richard, but Necker Island is so special that meeting him didn’t make my top 5 list. In a future post I’ll cover the question of whether a week on Necker Island is really…

Richard Branson

This has been a crazy day on Richard Branson’s Necker Island! I had lunch with Richard, participated in non-stop activities from morning to night, and was lucky to survive a pedal paddle-boarding adventure. As usual this week, I’m too busy having fun to write much, so I’ll let the videos tell the story… Zip Lining to lunch with Richard Branson Turtle Beach Pedal Paddle-Boarding Adventure. Background My wife and I are currently enjoying a 1…
