Buy points for less: When does it make sense to jump on a deal?

There are times when buying points or miles can make a lot of sense.  If you know what you’re doing, it’s often possible to save a lot of money or get a much better experience.  For example, you may be able to spend $50 on points to book a hotel that would have cost you over $100 if you booked the hotel for cash.  Or, maybe you were planning to pay $2,000 for an international…

Have a Hyatt Cat 1-4 free night certificate? These are your coming and departing opportunities.

Yesterday, Hyatt announced its annual category changes and we reported that 217 properties are changing in category. Because many of us have earned Category 1-4 free night certificates, many readers are most interested in properties that will be newly added to Category 4 or those that will soon become inaccessible with a Cat 1-4 free night certificate. In this post, I put together the list of new opportunities coming our way on March 22nd as well…

Hyatt Category changes 2020: A mixed bag

Hyatt category changes for 2020 have been announced today and will take effect on March 22, 2020. In total, 117 properties increase in price and 100 decrease in price. That sounds pretty mild (especially in comparison to the 1,687 that Marriott has slated to increase), but those numbers don’t tell the full story. Given that peak and off-peak pricing is also slated to begin next month, some of these increases could be much more significant than they…

(EXPIRED) [Back again] Save 10% On Hyatt Gift Cards Nov 29-Dec 2 & Dec 20-23

Reminder that this is live again 12/20 though 12/23 for those interested. Keep in mind that Hyatt gift cards had rampant fraud issues years ago. I thin they’ve resolved that, but I still wouldn’t buy a huge quantity without a near-term plan to use them. Hyatt has announced that they’ll be offering a 10% discount on their gift cards when using promo code WINTER19. This deal will be available between two four-day periods in the…

Hawaii tip: Cat 4 Hyatt in Maui now bookable

As I was looking through Category 4 Hyatt locations, I stumbled on one that recently became bookable with Hyatt points: Lahaina Shores Beach Resort is a Destination Hotel that is now bookable with 15,000 Hyatt points per night or a Cat 1-4 Hyatt free night certificate. While you will not get any Globalist benefits when staying (i.e. no free breakfast, no room upgrade, parking ?), the location is appealing for those who want to be near the…

2 Claims Using Hyatt’s Best Rate Guarantee: 2 Successes

Hyatt Place Chantilly Dulles Airport South - the site of both my successful BRG claims

Best Rate Guarantees of hotel loyalty programs can be great in theory, but they can also be a great source of frustration. I’ve seen many a story of people’s claims being denied, even when they believed they had a valid claim. I tried making a Best Rate Guarantee claim with IHG a year or two ago which was my sole experience making one with any hotel chain. That claim was denied, so I’ve tended to…

This means that you can now use points to book stays at these properties and earn points and elite credit on paid stays when booking directly through Hyatt.
