My Top 10 Category 1 & 2 Hotels In The US

Hyatt Place Austin Round Rock

If you only get to go on vacation once or twice a year for a few days at a time, it can make sense to save up your hotel points and redeem them for luxury properties so that you can maximize your enjoyment at the destination. My wife and I take a different approach though. We’ve lived in hotels and Airbnbs for the past 2.5 years or so, so we usually only redeem points for…

Hyatt & American Airlines Offering Reciprocal Fast Tracks To Elite Status

American Airlines Hyatt Status Match Challenge Fast Track Elite Status

Last year, Hyatt and American Airlines announced that they’d be launching a partnership that would allow reciprocal earning, status challenges and more. That partnership went live a couple of months later in May, while late last year some World of Hyatt members with Globalist status gained Executive Platinum status with American Airlines without any kind of flying requirements. Hyatt and American Airlines have now launched a new opportunity to fast track to elite status if…

Hyatt Offering 10k Points When Cancelling Non-Refundable Bookings Made Before March 8

Regency Suite at Hyatt Regency Bali

Hyatt has once again shown why they have such a highly regarded loyalty program. They announced last night that they’ll be awarding 10,000 World of Hyatt bonus points for any guests that booked a non-refundable rate but have now decided they don’t wish to (or can’t) travel as a result of the Coronavirus. Here’s the official announcement from Hyatt: We understand the need for increased flexibility with travel planning right now. To help guests, World…

Grand Hyatt New York. Bottom Line Review.

The Grand Hyatt New York, located next door to Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan, is a World of Hyatt category 5 hotel.  I stayed here this past weekend on a Hyatt Prive rate.  I checked in early and spent more time in the room than usual though still failed to take shots of the bedroom itself. Go figure. Still, here are my thoughts on the Grand Hyatt. The Grand Hyatt New York Bottom Line Review…

Buy points for less: When does it make sense to jump on a deal?

There are times when buying points or miles can make a lot of sense.  If you know what you’re doing, it’s often possible to save a lot of money or get a much better experience.  For example, you may be able to spend $50 on points to book a hotel that would have cost you over $100 if you booked the hotel for cash.  Or, maybe you were planning to pay $2,000 for an international…

Have a Hyatt Cat 1-4 free night certificate? These are your coming and departing opportunities.

Yesterday, Hyatt announced its annual category changes and we reported that 217 properties are changing in category. Because many of us have earned Category 1-4 free night certificates, many readers are most interested in properties that will be newly added to Category 4 or those that will soon become inaccessible with a Cat 1-4 free night certificate. In this post, I put together the list of new opportunities coming our way on March 22nd as well…

Hyatt Category changes 2020: A mixed bag

Hyatt category changes for 2020 have been announced today and will take effect on March 22, 2020. In total, 117 properties increase in price and 100 decrease in price. That sounds pretty mild (especially in comparison to the 1,687 that Marriott has slated to increase), but those numbers don’t tell the full story. Given that peak and off-peak pricing is also slated to begin next month, some of these increases could be much more significant than they…

(EXPIRED) [Back again] Save 10% On Hyatt Gift Cards Nov 29-Dec 2 & Dec 20-23

Reminder that this is live again 12/20 though 12/23 for those interested. Keep in mind that Hyatt gift cards had rampant fraud issues years ago. I thin they’ve resolved that, but I still wouldn’t buy a huge quantity without a near-term plan to use them. Hyatt has announced that they’ll be offering a 10% discount on their gift cards when using promo code WINTER19. This deal will be available between two four-day periods in the…
