From zero to hero on the status-match-go-round

We recently posted both here on Frequent Miler and in our Frequent Miler Insiders Facebook group asking readers about topics they’d like to hear about. There were some awesome suggestions that I’m looking forward to covering. One topic that came up a couple of times was status matching. Today I’m not going to cover a complete guide to status matching, but rather a current opportunity to start from zero and end up with useful status…

Seeking value, finding adventure for 15K Wyndham points per night

We just returned from a two week vacation in Germany and the United Kingdom, which was capped at the end with a 3 night stay at the Newton Manor House in Swanage Dorset England (pictured above).  We traveled with a total of 9 people for most of the trip, but a few others joined us in Swanage to fill the 8 bedroom, 9 bath “cottage”. We paid only 15,000 points per night for this incredible…

Which hotel program is the most rewarding? IHG vs Radisson vs Wyndham vs Choice

Several weeks ago, I began exploring the question, “Which hotel loyalty program is the most rewarding?” I found that question wasn’t easy to answer, and it only developed more layers as I delved into it. I started by comparing Hilton, Hyatt, and Marriott (See: Which hotel program is the most rewarding? Hyatt vs Hilton vs Marriott). In that post, I promised to follow up with a few other programs. In the end, I think beauty is…

Which Hotel Program Has The Most Rewarding Promotions?

Hotel Quarterly Promotions

Nick and Greg have recently been looking at which hotel loyalty schemes offer the best return on paid stays (see here and here). Their analysis has focused on the (somewhat) constant – how many base points you earn for stays, how many bonus points you’ll earn with status and how many points you’ll earn with a co-branded hotel credit card. There’s another factor that can greatly influence the number of points you’ll earn on a…

Wyndham Timeshare Presentation Survival Guide. Get Your “No” Face On.

Practicing our 'No' faces (I call mine Angry Blue Steel)

Your dog’s so cute. What breed is she? And thus begins the tale of how we ended up at a Wyndham timeshare presentation. My wife (Shae) and I were visiting Myrtle Beach for a few days and decided to check out Broadway At The Beach with our dog one morning. While walking along, a woman at the Information Center called out to us and asked that question about Truffles. We’re used to people asking about…

35,000 bonus points: Planning my first mattress run in years…

I haven’t done a mattress run in years, but I’m planning one now.  A mattress run is where you book and check in to a hotel just for the points and/or to earn status.  About 5 years ago, when Club Carlson offered 50,000 points for a one night Radisson stay my wife, son, and I each checked into cheap Radisson hotels just for the points.  We checked in, visited the room out of curiosity, and…
