American Express Membership Rewards is offering a targeted 20% transfer bonus to Qantas Frequent Flyer. As is often the case with Amex’s targeted transfer bonuses, there isn’t an end date listed, so this one may be of limited use unless you have an immediate need for Qantas points.

- With the bonus, 500 Membership Rewards points = 600 Qantas points

Quick Thoughts
Qantas points can be useful for very short American Airlines itineraries and they can be great for flying El Al in business class also. In a recent week in review around the post, we even linked to a post about the ability to redeem 27,600 Qantas points (23K Amex points in this case) to fly a very short hop in Emirates first class (Penang to Singapore). Qantas certainly has some decent values.
However, if you don’t have an immediate use in mind, you may want to hold off. Qantas often offers targeted bonuses to members for transferring credit card points to Qantas. We’ve seen those opportunities stack with Amex or Citi transfer bonuses in the past. I’d hold off for that kind of stacking opportunity if you don’t have a use in mind now.
Of course, if you do have a Qantas redemption on the horizon and you’re targeted, this could be a good chance to save some points.

A request: Anytime you post about one of these temporary transfer bonuses, it would be helpful if you also included details of the expiration policy for the target currency (in this case, expiration policy for Qantas). Some folks may be tempted to just transfer points speculatively (or if they have an uncomfortably high balance of points in the source currency). Knowing if/when those points might expire would make it easier to see at a glance if the idea of transferring them was a reasonable option, or crazy. Just a suggestion.
