Targeted Qantas transfer bonus: up to 30% (really 15% for most)

3

Yesterday, we reported that Qantas has become an Amex transfer partner. In that post, we noted that you may want to link your Qantas account to Membership Rewards and make a small transfer because Dan’s Deals reported that having made at least one transfer into your Qantas account would make you more likely to be targeted for transfer bonuses from the Qantas side in the future. Maybe that advice was good; I made my first Qantas transfer from Citi a month or two ago and today I received a targeted transfer bonus for up to 30% on transfers from credit card rewards like ThankYou points or Membership Rewards.

The Deal

  • Qantas Frequent Flyer is sending targeted emails with an offer for a bonus of up to 30% more Qantas points when you transfer from a credit card or charge card program like Citi ThankYou points or Amex Membership Rewards by June 30, 2019

Key Details

  • Transfer up to 500K get a 15% bonus
  • Transfer between 500,001 and 1,999,999 and get a 20% bonus
  • Transfer 2,000,000 or more and get a 30% bonus

Quick Thoughts

It’s unlikely that many are realistically going to transfer two million credit card points. Most of us would be looking at a 15% bonus here. That’s obviously a better deal than no bonus.

However, it would get even better if we saw a transfer bonus from Citi or Amex during this time period. One of these targeted bonuses in fact stacked with a Citi ThankYou transfer bonus earlier this year. Hopefully we’ll see Citi or Amex offer a transfer bonus before the end of the month. Seeing as how transfers from Amex Membership Rewards are reportedly instant (they were not from ThankYou points), I’d hope for an Amex transfer bonus.

If you have transferred points to Qantas Frequent Flyer before, be on the lookout for an email with the subject line, “It’s transfer time! Turn your rewards points into Qantas Points and earn more“.

Even though this one is targeted, we’re adding it to our current point transfer bonuses resource page for reference in case another transfer bonus pops up.
