Quick Thoughts

The Walmart store I was in earlier had several gift card packs offering bonuses (e.g. buy $50 Red Robin gift card and get a $10 bonus card, buy $45 Domino’s gift card pack for $40, etc.), but the Hotels.com offer seemed to offer the best value.

Hotels.com gift cards are often available on sale with a 15-20% discount, so this 30% bonus is better than that. The terms aren’t entirely clear though as to how the $15 bonus code works.

They’re clear that you have to claim the $15 digital gift card by March 31, 2019, but it doesn’t state whether or not that card has to be redeemed by March 31, 2019 as well. If it works as a regular gift card, you’ll be able to merge that balance with the $50 gift card, making this deal much better than if it expires at the end of March.

I didn’t end up buying any of these cards as I’m already sitting on a stack of Hotels.com gift cards bought at a 20% discount on Prime Day from the Membership Rewards deal, so I can’t test it for myself. If you’ve bought any of these cards and know how the $15 card works, please let us know in the comments below.

Many people commonly calculate the discount incorrectly when bonus is involved. This is a 23% discount rather than a 30% discount. You’re paying $50 to buy a $65 card.

I got one tonight and was successful in merging the $15 credit into the $50 gift card. However, I should try it with another gift card. May stop by tomorrow.

After redeeming my code (BTW, it’s a 19-digit code on the back of the packaging after the big numbers, but ignore the numbers underneath the first 19):
Redeem online
Visit http://www.hotels.com/gc
Search the destination and desired dates of travel
Select the hotel and room type you wish to book
Select “Pay Now” if applicable
Enter your e-Gift Card number and PIN
Promotion Terms and Conditions – Promotion offered at participating Walmart stores. Offer Valid from 10/1/18 to 1/1/19. Must claim bonus by 3/31/19. Valid on $50 gift card only.
