Yes, JetBlue’s points match deal requires booking a NEW flight

8

JetBlue is currently offering an amazing deal: they’ll match the number of points in your Virgin America Elevate account simply by registering and then booking and flying a JetBlue roundtrip flight by August 31.  Full details can be found in my “Ultimate Guide to JetBlue’s points match deal.”

A few readers who had previously booked roundtrip JetBlue flights for this summer asked whether those flights would count.

Unfortunately, the terms & conditions of the deal (found here) state (I’ve added underlining):

…await receipt of an email to confirm registration for the promotion and then book new roundtrip flights operated by JetBlue and completed all travel by 08/31/2016

The terms clearly state that you must book a new roundtrip flight after successfully registering for this promotion.  But, it seemed to me that it may have been a poor choice of words. They may have intended simply to exclude flights that start before successfully registering for the promotion.

I reached out to JetBlue on Twitter to see what they thought:

So, there you have it.  The official word is that you must make a new booking.  Of course it is possible that they won’t check.  That is, it may be that when you fly your existing roundtrip booking you’ll earn JetBlue points from the flight (as always) and that will trigger the successful completion of the promo.  While that’s absolutely possible, I would not count on it.

Best bet, if you want to ensure getting your points match is to wait for email confirmation that you have successfully registered for the promotion and then book your roundtrip flight (which must be complete by August 31).

Please find answers to your questions about this promotion in the master post: “The Ultimate Guide to JetBlue’s points match deal.”

What prevents someone from doctoring a Virgin America page to “create” 50,001 miles? How would JetBlue know?

Delete this moronic comment please. You wanted to be a smartass, what you don’t know that you are a jackass.

If your Mosaic, just cancel and re-book.

Be fee free
JetBlue change and cancellation fees will be waived for Mosaic members and others on their itinerary.1

@DavidNJ: even though mosaic gets canx fees waived, the fare could be higher after canx / rebook

…..or could be the same ……. or lower.

[…] I already have a JetBlue flight booked for this summer. Will that qualify? No. You must book your flight after successfully registering with this promo. […]
