Re-Plinking Sears

In my July post, “Plinking Sears,” I introduced the idea of double-dipping when buying Sears gift cards by earning both Plink points and online shopping portal points for the same purchase.  That approach works well, but it is slow and cumbersome. You have to wait for gift cards to arrive via mail and you end up with many separate $50 gift cards.  As I described in the post “Combining Sears gift cards,” it’s not always…

5X everywhere rises

UPDATE: Plink now limits rewards at Staples to 10 transactions per month. A long time ago, in a galaxy that was as yet unaware of Vanilla Reload cards, I posted “5X Everywhere!“.  In that post I explained that it was possible to buy $100 Visa gift cards at an office supply store online and recover the entire purchase fee through a cash back portal.  By paying with a credit card that earns 5X at office…

The top 5 ways to get Sears gift cards

A week ago, I showed how it is possible to use Sears gift cards to pay for travel (see “Earn more miles (many more) for any flight, any hotel, any cruise“).  In that post, I promised to follow up with the best ways to earn points, miles, and cash back when buying Sears gift cards.  Here goes… #1: Take advantage of portal promotions In the past few weeks alone, Sears has held many portal promotions…

Plinking Staples

UPDATE: Plink now limits rewards at Staples to 10 transactions per month. As I reported last week, Plink has recently added Staples to the list of merchants available for Plink rewards.  Plink is a rewards program that awards points for shopping at certain merchants.  Plink lets you link a single credit card to your account and automatically awards you when qualifying transactions appear on your credit account.  Plink points are worth a penny each towards…

Think before you re-Plink

A quick public service announcement…  If you’ve recently been Plinking Freedom and are thinking of Plinking Ink, please stop and think.  If you switch cards on your Plink account before your first card’s Plink Points post, then you will not get the Plink Points.  Wait for points to post before you re-Plink. Please disregard this announcement if you did not understand it.  I promise, you’re not alone.  Thank you.

Maximizing the 2 day Sears/MileagePlus 16X promotion

As I reported earlier today via my QuickDeals page, Sears is currently offering 12 miles per dollar for shopping through the United MileagePlus Shopping portal, and 16 miles per dollar for MileagePlus cardholders.  Unfortunately, this promotion runs for just 2 days (Oct 8th and 9th).  16X is the best payout for Sears that I’ve ever seen, and 12X is second only to the one time 15X promotion they ran last year through the Southwest Rapid…

How to maximize Chase Freedom’s 4th quarter 5X?

Every 3 months, Chase offers new categories with which Freedom cardholders can earn 5 points per dollar (up to $1500 in spend).  This quarter, the bonus categories are Amazon.com and “Select department stores.” Let’s look at ways to maximize this quarter’s bonus categories… Amazon.com purchases and gift cards If you shop often at Amazon.com, the simplest solution is to use your Freedom card to pay for Amazon purchases.  Getting 5 points per dollar from Amazon.com…

Plinking Flowers

Plink has recently added FTD to its list of merchants.  If you add FTD to your Plink Wallet and spend exactly $60 at FTD, you’ll earn the equivalent of 12.5% back in the form of Plink points. The nice thing about this is that it should stack nicely with online shopping portal promotions, such as the one currently available at AAdvantage eShopping.  They are currently offering 30 miles per dollar at FTD.com. Note that shopping…

A guide to Plink rewards

Plink is a rewards program that lets you earn points for shopping at various merchants.  The cool thing about Plink is that it is independent from other rewards you may earn such as store loyalty points, shopping portal points, and credit card rewards.  As a result, Plink provides opportunities to double, triple, quadruple, or even quintuple dip! For background information about maximizing Plink point earnings, please see the following posts: Plinking gift cards Plinking Sears…

Double Plink! UPDATE: targeted offer

UPDATE: The offer cited below is targeted to specific Plink users. If you didn’t receive this offer via email, then you won’t qualify for double points. Last Saturday I told you why I wasn’t too excited by Plink’s double points at Sears promotion (see “Sears double Plink sounds great, but…“).  Now, though, Plink has added double points at Kmart, and that changes everything. Once you signup for Plink (see my Signup Links page), make sure…
