35,000 bonus points: Planning my first mattress run in years…

I haven’t done a mattress run in years, but I’m planning one now.  A mattress run is where you book and check in to a hotel just for the points and/or to earn status.  About 5 years ago, when Club Carlson offered 50,000 points for a one night Radisson stay my wife, son, and I each checked into cheap Radisson hotels just for the points.  We checked in, visited the room out of curiosity, and…

Finding gold in old Wyndham points

Last week Wyndham offered a ridiculously lucrative deal.  The first 50 members to call could book an entire “cottage” in Italy, France, Ireland or the UK for just 15,000 Wyndham points per night.  Normally they charge 15,000 points per room per night.  This deal made it possible to book a mansion for just 15,000 points per night. Surprisingly, this deal did not sell out right away.  Or, maybe it’s not surprising.  Early on, phone agents…

ThankYou transfer to AA; Wyndham surprises; Rite Aid drops debit loads: My 2016 Predictions

2016 predictions

Welcome to 2016! Yesterday I proved that my odd-numbered-year predictions are not so good, but we know that I’m really good with even-numbered-year predictions.  In other words, my 2014 predictions were mostly right whereas my 2015 predictions were mostly wrong.  So, obviously, my 2016 predictions will be spot-on.  You can practically take these to the bank… Citi will add American Airlines as a new ThankYou Rewards transfer partner I agree with Lucky on this one. …

$37.50 for peace of mind and 10,000 points

10,000 points

My wife just received a 10K bonus point offer from Barclaycard for her Wyndham card. All she has to do is spend $500 per month for three months: This is not nearly as good as an offer I got recently from Barclaycard for 15,000 AAdvantage miles after spending $500 per month for three months, but it’s certainly not a bad offer. Even though my wife’s Wyndham card has been thoroughly sock-drawered after earning its original…

Wyndham: 15,000 points per night… Anywhere!

Wow, I didn’t see this coming.  Via The Points Guy and Loyalty Traveler, I learned today that Wyndham is planning to overhaul their rewards program, in a very good way, on May 11th.  The startling part of the Wyndham announcement is that they will have a single flat redemption rate for hotel nights: 15,000 points per night, regardless of the property – with no blackout dates.  Yes, many of Wyndham’s properties are low-end and probably…
