1K AA miles with $12 AARP membership (via Simply Miles)

15

The American Airlines AAdvantage SimplyMiles program has quite a few new offers out, including one good for 1,000 miles when you join AARP. Keep in mind that anyone can join AARP (you do not need to be retired or of retirement age — I’ve been a member for several years) and when you join with auto-renewal, it’s just $12 for the first year. If you value the miles at better than 1.2c each, this deal could be worth it even if you didn’t have any use for the membership.

The Deal

Key Terms

  • Expires 6/3020
  • Valid when you activate the offer and make payment with a card enrolled in your SimplyMiles account
  • Limit 1 redemption
  • Must add the offer to your card prior to redemption

Quick Thoughts

AARP membership isn’t wildly valuable, but I’ve kept a membership because if I use it once to good value on a British Airways ticket it will have paid for itself for quite a while.

You can currently pay $12 for the first year with auto-renewal ($16 per year thereafter, cancel any time) or join for 3 years for $30 or 5 years for $45.

In addition to the British Airways discount, there are some car rental and restaurant discounts. See this page for a list.

Stephen Pepper also points out that they sometimes sell discounted gift cards, which could line up for a good deal.

Remember to use a Mastercard linked with your SimplyMiles account — you don’t need to click through SimplyMiles but rather use a card linked with the program to pay.

AARP gives you a 0.10% boost in Marcus Savings, may make sense if you have an account with them.

I don’t see any AARP offer for some reason. Has this been pulled already?

15% off at Denny’s. They used to stop this at 4 pm because, well, old people go to sleep by 6.

So which credit cards can you use with this offer? The Barclays or Citibank?

The FAQ says any Mastercard can be used.

“Currently SimplyMiles is open to holders of any valid mastercard. We’ll be adding more options in the future. Stay tuned.”

That offer is not available to everyone. You should include that info in your post.

One good thing: if you are over 50 you can use AARP’s Hartford car insurance. They don’t ensure younger people — you can save $$$.
